Clinical - Provide expert triage assessment and care for women accessing maternity services, using the Birmingham Symptom-specific Obstetric Triage System (BSOTS) to assess clinical acuity, prioritise care, and determine the most appropriate pathway of management. - Work within an integrated model of maternity care across community and acute settings, supporting seamless, woman-centred care throughout the maternity journey. - Undertake comprehensive maternal and fetal assessments, recognising and responding promptly to actual or potential complications, escalating concerns appropriately and liaising with obstetric, neonatal and multidisciplinary colleagues as required. - Be competent in core midwifery skills, including venepuncture, cannulation, intravenous drug administration, CTG interpretation, maternal and neonatal resuscitation, and emergency obstetric care. - Demonstrate confidence and competence in managing obstetric emergencies within both hospital and community settings, responding effectively to rapidly changing clinical situations. - Deliver and maintain a high standard of evidence-based midwifery practice, ensuring safe, effective and compassionate care within the triage environment.

We are seeking experienced and motivated midwives with a strong foundation in evidence-based midwifery practice and a commitment to delivering high-quality, woman-centred care. The applicant must be a registered Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and possess substantial post-registration experience across the maternity pathway. They will have a sound knowledge of normal and complex pregnancy, labour and postnatal care, with a thorough understanding of maternal and fetal assessment, risk identification, safeguarding, and emergency obstetric situations. Experience of working within a maternity triage environment and using the Birmingham Symptom-specific Obstetric Triage System (BSOTS) to assess clinical acuity and prioritise care is highly desirable. The post holder will demonstrate excellent clinical assessment, decision-making and prioritisation skills, with the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced and often unpredictable environment. They will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling them to provide compassionate care, support informed decision-making, and work effectively within the multidisciplinary team. The ability to escalate concerns appropriately, maintain accurate documentation, utilise electronic patient record systems, and support the learning and development of colleagues and students is essential.,

  • Active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • United Kingdom recognised Degree in Midwifery Practice
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of professional portfolio and registration revalidation
  • Current experience and evidence of working as a Band 6 midwife or above, Demonstrates advanced clinical assessment, decision-making and risk management skills, including the ability to prioritise workload and manage competing demands within a busy triage environment.
  • Able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care using sound clinical reasoning, escalating concerns appropriately to promote maternal and neonatal safety.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and documentation skills, with the ability to convey complex or sensitive information compassionately and effectively.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of midwifery, maternity triage, safeguarding, governance and professional practice, applying evidence-based care at all times.
  • Able to act as a role model, supporting, supervising and developing students, newly qualified midwives and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of clinical standards, guidelines and service improvements within the triage setting.
  • Demonstrates resilience, professionalism and adaptability when working within a fast-paced and changing environment., Experience of working within an acute maternity setting, including the assessment and management of women with urgent and unscheduled maternity care needs.
  • Experience of coordinating care, prioritising clinical activity and working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team., Experience of maternity triage and the use of the Birmingham Symptom-specific Obstetric Triage System (BSOTS) is desirable., Compassionate, woman-centred and committed to delivering high-quality care.
