Band 6 Sister / Charge Nurse - Ward 29 and Surgical Assessment Unit

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an aspiring Sister or Charge Nurse to join Ward 29 and the Surgical Assessment Unit. Ward 29 is a busy surgical ward caring for general surgical and lower GI patients, while the 6-bedded Surgical Assessment Unit provides assessment, investigation and treatment for patients who may require admission or same-day management. The unit operates seven days a week from 08:00 to 20:30, offering a dynamic environment in which to develop clinical and leadership skills. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and motivated nurse to contribute to high standards of patient care, patient safety and workforce development. You will work closely with the senior nursing team to support service delivery, lead by example and help create a positive and inclusive culture. We welcome applications from experienced Band 5 nurses seeking career progression, as well as established Band 6 nurses looking for a new challenge. If you are passionate about surgical nursing and ready to take the next step in your career, we would love to hear from you., As a Band 6 Nurse on Ward 29 and the Surgical Assessment Unit, you will provide safe, effective and compassionate care while supporting the nursing team and contributing to the day-to-day management of both areas. You will:

• Provide visible and inclusive clinical leadership, acting as a positive role model.
• Assess, plan, deliver and evaluate high-quality nursing care for surgical and lower GI patients.
• Coordinate daily ward and assessment unit activity, ensuring patient flow, staffing and clinical priorities are effectively managed.
• Support the assessment and management of patients attending the Surgical Assessment Unit, facilitating timely investigations, treatment, admission or discharge.
• Promote patient safety and ensure care is delivered in line with Trust policies, professional standards and evidence-based practice.
• Prioritise competing clinical demands, demonstrating sound judgement and escalating concerns appropriately.
• Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective communication and continuity of care.
• Support and develop Band 5 nurses, students, nursing associates and other team members through supervision, teaching and coaching.
• Contribute to staff induction, competency development and quality improvement initiatives.
• Promote a positive culture where staff feel supported, valued and empowered.
• Communicate effectively with patients and relatives, ensuring dignity, choice and person-centred care.
• Deputise for the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse when required.
