Band 6 Sister / Charge Nurse - Ward 28

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Ward 28 -- Infectious Diseases as a full-time, permanent Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse.

Ward 28 is a regional specialist unit for Infection and Tropical Medicine, caring for patients with a wide range of specialist, rare and complex infections, including MERS, malaria, typhoid and tuberculosis (TB).

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and compassionate nurse with a genuine passion for caring for patients with complex infectious diseases. This role offers an exciting opportunity to develop your leadership skills while working within a specialist area that presents unique and rewarding challenges.

As a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse, you will play a key role in the day-to-day management and effective running of the ward. Responsibilities will include allocating staff appropriately, supporting patient flow, reviewing duty rotas and ensuring the appropriate skill mix is maintained to deliver safe and effective care.

You will also deputise for the Ward Manager in their absence, supporting the team and providing strong clinical leadership as part of the ward's 24-hour management structure.

If you are an experienced nurse looking for an opportunity to develop your leadership within a specialist infectious diseases environment, we would love to hear from you., As a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse, you will provide strong clinical and professional leadership, supporting the Ward Manager in the effective day-to-day management of the ward and the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care.

Key responsibilities will include:

Provide effective clinical leadership and professional support to nursing and multidisciplinary team members.

Take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the ward, ensuring safe, effective and compassionate patient care.

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care, ensuring care is individualised and responsive to patients' needs.

Coordinate patient flow and bed management, working closely with the wider multidisciplinary team to facilitate admissions, transfers and discharges.

Allocate nursing staff appropriately according to patient acuity, workload and skill mix, ensuring safe staffing levels are maintained.

Provide clinical supervision, mentorship and support to registered nurses, nursing associates, healthcare support workers and students.

Act as a positive role model, promoting professional standards, effective communication and a culture of learning and continuous improvement.

Support the Ward Manager with staff management, including duty rotas, annual leave, sickness management, performance and development.

Deputise for the Ward Manager in their absence, taking responsibility for the effective management of the ward and providing 24-hour leadership as required.
