Band 6 Sister / Charge Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Emergency Department nurse to join our leadership team as a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse on a 12-month fixed-term basis to provide maternity cover. This role offers the opportunity to further develop clinical leadership, operational management and workforce development skills while contributing to the delivery of safe, high-quality emergency care. We are seeking an individual who can demonstrate strong clinical expertise, effective leadership skills and the ability to coordinate a busy emergency care environment. Applicants should have substantial Emergency Department experience and be able to evidence experience in shift coordination, supporting junior staff and managing patient flow within a fast-paced setting. The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse team to support service delivery, staff development and patient experience, ensuring the department continues to provide safe, effective and compassionate care. The new state-of-the-art Emergency Department includes:

• 8-bedded Resuscitation Area
• 29 Majors Cubicles
• 3 Mental Health Assessment Rooms
• Rapid Assessment and Treatment Area
• 6 Cubicles within the Children and Young People's Emergency Department
As a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse within the Emergency Department, the post holder will provide strong clinical and operational leadership, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality patient care within a fast-paced and challenging environment. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake the role of Shift Coordinator/Nurse in Charge, taking responsibility for the day-to-day operational management of the department. This includes overseeing patient flow, managing departmental escalation, and ensuring the safe deployment of staff to maintain appropriate skill mix and safer staffing requirements throughout the shift. The post holder will provide expert clinical support to the multidisciplinary team, acting as a role model and demonstrating professional leadership in the management of patients requiring urgent and emergency care. The post holder will work closely with the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse team to support service delivery, performance management, quality improvement initiatives, clinical governance and the achievement of departmental standards and operational targets. The successful candidate will be expected to identify, manage and escalate clinical risks appropriately, ensuring incidents, complaints, safeguarding concerns and patient safety issues are managed in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
