Full Job Description
If you were to be successful, you would be supporting a team of healthcare assistants within the local phlebotomy areas, outpatient clinics as well as having hands on experience dealing with poorly patients.
You will be provided with full support and work closely with our other band 6s and will be expected to cover each other's leave.
We are an innovative and a forward-thinking unit, which is dedicated to reviewing and developing the ways that we work for the needs of our patients. We welcome new ideas and would look forward to working with nurses who have a genuine passion for caring for patients in this field., 1. To deputize for and support the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.
2. Be responsible for and maintain a safe environment, escalating issues appropriately
3. Monitor clinics in compliance with Trust policy, monitoring and escalating breaches
4. Provide a welcoming and approachable management support ethic for all staff and act as mentor to designated staff ensuring each staff member participates in a personal development plan and act to maximize the potential of others
5. Act as team leader for the OPD & Proton team, ensuring that they are compliant with training requirements.
6. Assess, plan and implement clinical care and maintain associated patient records.
7. Safely attend to required nursing tasks in Outpatients, such as: Admissions, dressings, injections, referrals to relevant members of the MDT.
8. To organize daily work schedule ensuring appropriate and effective skill mix and deployment of staff for appropriate patient needs
9. To have an awareness of the staff and non-staff budget
10. Be aware of Health and Safety issues and ensure relevant risk assessments are undertaken.
11. Report and record all accidents and complaints according to the agreed policy, investigating speedily and compassionately
12. Ensure all trust policies and procedures are adhered to and new ones implemented as necessary
13. Regularly liaise and report to senior nursing and service managers on unit affairs and staff development.
14. Assist in nursing recruitment process when required
15. Take a progressive approach to the management of short and long-term sickness/absence in collaboration with the senior sister/charge nurse
TRAINING & EDUCATION
1. Participate and undertake research and audit which will influence practice
2. To be up to date in all IV training programs including annual updates and competent in all areas of clinical practice including assessment of critically ill patient and competent in performing ECG's
3. Attend all mandatory study days
PROFESSIONAL
1. Act as a resource giving advice and support to nursing staff regarding emergency admissions and associated issues
2. Liaise closely with the medical team and other members of the MDT in respect of patient care promoting the highest standard of care
3. To develop and maintain a professional interest in all aspects of nursing and associated research
4. To actively seek to review unit performance and workflow, identifying areas for improvement/development, and developing strategies to progress these.
We are seeking an experienced, motivated and flexible Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to join our busy Oncology Outpatients team. The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership and support the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care across Main Outpatients, Proton Beam centre, Department 35 and Department 1 when required.
The role involves managing a varied workload including patient admissions, clinical assessments, wound and line dressings, injections, symptom management and other outpatient treatments and procedures. You will be confident in recognising and responding to deteriorating patients, managing emergency situations and escalating concerns promptly and appropriately.
We are looking for someone who is adaptable, resilient and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will support day-to-day service delivery, contribute to safe staffing and patient flow, and be willing to work across departments to meet service needs.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, with the ability to work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team and provide support, guidance and leadership to junior colleagues. You will be committed to maintaining high standards of patient care, promoting a positive team culture and embracing service developments and change.
