Band 6 Senior Dietitian, Liver Medicine

We are offering an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic dietitian to join our growing Liver Medicine Service on a 12-month fixed-term basis. This post is based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. You will be working alongside our specialist dietetic team, playing a pivotal role in delivering and developing the dietetic service for patients with chronic liver disease. You will work across the inpatient and outpatient setting, supporting patients with a wide range of liver condition. There may also be opportunity to support patients undergoing assessment for or recovering from liver transplantation. The role involves providing specialist nutritional assessment and intervention to manage malnutrition and sarcopenia, improve clinical outcomes and quality of life. You will work closely with hepatologists, specialist nurses and other allied health professionals, to deliver patient-centred care. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and proactive dietitian to gain specialist experience in hepatology. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development, evaluation and sustainability of the service through quality improvement initiatives, audit and research activities. Experience in the nutritional management of patients with liver disease would be advantageous; however, applications are welcomed from dietitians with a strong interest in hepatology who are keen to develop specialist knowledge and skills in this area.Main duties of the job As a key member of the Liver Medicine multidisciplinary team, you will -Manage a specialist caseload of patients with chronic liver disease in inpatient and outpatient settings. -Assess and manage malnutrition, sarcopenia and nutrition-related complications of liver disease, developing individualised treatment plans to optimise clinical outcomes and quality of life. -Work closely with the specialist dietetic team to support the ongoing development of the Liver Medicine dietetic service. -Contribute to audit, quality improvement, research and service evaluation projects to demonstrate the impact and effectiveness of specialist dietetic interventions. -Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team, including hepatologists, specialist nurses and other allied health professionals, to deliver coordinated, patient-centred care. -Contribute to the development of patient information resources, clinical guidelines, care pathways and evidence-based practice within the Liver Medicine and Liver Transplant services. -Provide education and training to dietetic colleagues, students and members of the multidisciplinary team to promote best practice in the nutritional management of liver disease.,

  Evidence of relevant GCSE, NVQ, GNVQ, AS and A levels
• Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent
• Registration with HCPC, MSc or equivalent experience e.g. advanced level of clinical practice / relevant postgraduate, professionally accredited courses, Relevant post registration experience relevant to clinical area.
• In depth for nutritional assessment / nutritional screening tools.
• Knowledge of all types of nutritional support.
• Up to date with clinical developments, with evidence of contributions to clinical meetings / journal clubs.
• Working knowledge of computer programmes e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, dietary analysis, data collection and patient information programmes.
• Evidence of clinical audit and/or research.
• Evidence of multi-disciplinary teamwork.
• Knowledge of standards of record keeping and medico-legal issues.
• Experience of training Dietetic students., Evidence of teaching groups of professionals and patients
• Evidence of ongoing regular attendance on post-graduate training courses and clinical development.
• Evidence of attendance at national conferences.
• Attendance at specialist group meetings of BDA and accredited specialist training course.
• Attendance at relevant multi-disciplinary courses/conferences, Ability to work through interpreters and use visual aids

• Use equipment relevant to speciality e.g. skin fold callipers, enteral feeding equipment, weighing scales, stadiometers.
