Band 6 Deputy Sister / Charge Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced registered nurse to join our dynamic Vascular Ward team as a Band 6 Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse. Docking Ward provides specialist care for patients with complex vascular conditions, including post-operative vascularsurgery, limb ischaemia, diabetic foot disease and emergency admissions. This role is ideal for a nurse who ispassionate about high-quality patient care, staff development and clinical leadership. As a Band 6 Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse, you will:

• Act as a visible clinical leader within the ward
• Support the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse in the day-to-day management of the ward
• Lead shifts, coordinating safe and effective patient care
• Support and supervise junior staff, students and new starters
• Promote high standards of nursing practice, patient safety and experience
• Act as a role model for professional practice and Trust values
• Contribute to quality improvement, audit and service development

Main duties of the job As a Deputy Sister or Charge Nurse, you will play a key leadership role in delivering high-quality care to patients withcomplex vascular conditions. Working closely with the Ward Sister, you will help lead the ward on a day-to-day basis,ensuring safe staffing, effective patient flow, and consistently high clinical standards. You will be a visible clinical leader, supporting and supervising nursing staff while remaining hands-on with patient care. On any given shift, you will coordinate care for patients recovering from major vascular surgery, managing chronic limbthreatening ischaemia, diabetic foot disease, aneurysms, and acute vascular admissions. This is a fast-pacedenvironment where patient acuity can change quickly, and your clinical judgement will be central to keeping patientssafe. Other key Responsibilities include... Contribute to service improvement, staff development, and quality initiatives, acting as a role model for best practice invascular nursing and professional behaviour, demonstrating the NNUH's PRIDE values in your daily practice. Support the Ward Sister in the overall management of the ward, including acting as nurse-in-charge when required. Lead and coordinate shifts to ensure safe staffing, effective patient flow, and high standards of care. Deliver expert clinical care to patients with complex vascular needs, including post-operative care and woundmanagement. Supervise, mentor, and support all nursing staff.,
• Ensure practice is in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conductand work within limits of competence.
• Assist the Ward/Department manager in maintaining standards of nursingpractice.
• Carry out and advise/supervise junior staff in the assessment, planning, deliveryand evaluating of nursing care.
• Carry out the daily personal care of patients.
• To take charge of the clinical area in the absence of the Ward/DepartmentSister/ Charge Nurse
• To ensure the patient administration systems e.g. PAS are up-dated to ensurereal time data collection and confidentiality.
• To ensure the effective use of information technology for the benefit of patientcare in accordance with the Trusts Cyber Code of Conduct.
• To ensure the confidentiality of information (written, verbal, electronic) ismaintained, whilst being aware of the Freedom for Information Act.
• To co-ordinate and monitor the progress of patients within their plan of care andto promptly and effectively communicate relevant changes in patient status tothe multi-disciplinary team.
• Effectively communicate complex, sensitive or contentious information to themulti-disciplinary team gaining their co-operation.
