Full Job Description
Poppy Unit is a 20 bedded mixed acute unit and Bluebell Unit is a 4 bedded place of safety suite located in the heart of Wiltshire. We work with a range of service users who are presenting as acutely unwell and in crises. We are looking for professional and enthusiastic nurses to come and work with our wonderful team of qualified nurses, HCA's, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapist, Exercise Specialists, Activities Coordinator and Doctors. As a Band 6 Nurse you will be expected to co-ordinate shifts, risk assess, show clinical leadership and implement Quality Improvement projects, as well as acting up into the band 7 role in the absence of a band 7. Skilled management and clinical work within Poppy and Bluebell can be rewarding. You will receive regular supervision within the team. Here at Poppy and Bluebell, we are keen for you to develop within your role, and we offer new learning experiences and encourage training opportunities alongside the expectation of duties of the job outlined below.,
- To provide clear clinical leadership to Staff Nurses and Mental Health Assistants working on the ward.
- Ensure the continuity of care for service users and full implementation of Trust policies.
- To supervise Band 5 staff and below in developing, implementing and assessing individual programmes of care.
- An integral part of the role is to undertake appraisals, clinical supervision and teaching.
- Responsible for specific "management duties" within the ward, which are commensurate with their grade, you will be expected to provide general management in the absence of the Ward Manager.
- Undertaking a comprehensive, person-centred, nursing assessment and prepare care plans in consultation with the service users to provide the best nursing care.
- Evaluation of effectiveness of care provided in partnership with users.
- Ability to undertake risk assessment and develop risk management strategies for individual clients; ICPA/SAP to people who present with mental health problems.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of the key elements of relevant mental Health Legislation.
- Ensure the ordering storage, administration and disposal of medication complies with relevant trust and legislative guidance e.g. NMC Standards for Medicines Management 2010,Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and MHA (1983).
