Band 5 Staff Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our friendly, Paediatric nursing teams. 36 hours permanent position available. The Paediatric Department consists of a team of experienced and dedicated Nursing and Medical staff providing care to children and young people from birth to 16 years. The Children's Ward includes 17 in-patient and 4 day case beds . There is also a 6 bedded Paediatric Observation Assessment Unit co-located next to the ward. An Enhanced DBS Certificate, with the checking of the Children's Barred Lists is required for this position. Main duties of the job

• To be responsible in association with the team leader for the formulation and implementation of individual patient care plans.
• To participate in the holistic assessment of patients, and to formulate and review individual patient care plans and to act as 'named nurse' or associate for a group of patients from admission to discharge as determined by the Ward Manager.
• To commenceand participate in research/special projects as directed by the ward manager.
• To contribute to the setting, maintaining and monitoring of standards of care within the ward.
• Help to ensure that all equipment is in safe working order in conjunction with the department equipment controller.
• Internal rotations onto night duty and twilight shifts are required.
• To assist in the promotion of effective communication with all ward staff and other departments as required.
• Promote the safeguarding of vulnerable patients in line with national and local policy
  
  1st Level Registered Nurse (degree/diploma)
• Current NMC Registration
• Evidence of continuing professional development, Able to demonstrate knowledge of NMC professional standards for practice contained within the code
• Experience of working in a clinical environment
• Understand requirements for NMC professional Revalidation
• Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
• An understanding of national, regional and local NHS issues
• Experience of providing and receiving complex, sensitive information

• Ability to de-escalate complex situations
• Ability to communicate effectively (written, verbal and non-verbal communication) with patients/relatives and carers and all members of the multi-disciplinary team.

• Computer literacy e.g. experience of electronic patient record, Frequent moderate effort for several short periods of time such as manual handling of patients and equipment.
• Frequent concentration required for drug calculation and administration

• Ability to work within highly distressing or emotional circumstances e.g. end of life care
• Ability to communicate distressing information
• Ability to communicate in a challenging environment
• Able to carry out direct clinical care as required on ward or department.
