Full Job Description
Due to internal movement we have the opportunity for a Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist to join our team at QEHB. The role would be suitable for an NQP, a current SLT looking for a new challenge or a student SLT qualifying soon (HCPC registration required within 3 months of interview). The successful candidates would work alongside peers in a rotational role across several specialities including medicine, stroke, neuro-trauma, oncology, healthcare for older people, respiratory and specialist surgery. You will benefit from a robust supervision structure alongside innovation, participation in research and clinical/professional development being encouraged. You would be part of a well-established team which also benefits from SLT led Videofluoroscopy and FEES services so opportunities to access these instrumental assessments would also be available. Main duties of the job The successful candidate will be supported to become dysphagia competent and have a clear passion in this specialist area. Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- attending internal and external training to develop your clinical skills
- assessing and managing patients with dysphagia and communication disorders
- service development projects
- training of colleagues and members of the MDT
- Supervision responsibilities for SLT Assistants and students as appropriate
working flexibly and thriving in a fast-paced, acute environment We have a large team who share a caseload of diverse patient cohorts so being a team player is essential. We would welcome a candidate who is has experience working with patients in specialist areas but our supportive team will be willing to support your development in these areas., - BSc or recognised MSc degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
- Membership of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
- Registration with HCPC, or due to have within 3 months of interview. Desirable
- Completed RCSLT Level C/Level 5 dysphagia competencies.
- Completed RCSLT NQP competencies. Experience Essential
- Experience of working, or clinical SLT placement, with an adult caseload.
- Experience of working successfully as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Experience of working or clinical placement with adult dysphagia caseload.
- Theoretical and practical knowledge of assessment and management of dysphagia, dysarthria, dyspraxia, dysphonia, and dysphasia. Desirable
- Membership of a relevant Clinical Excellence Network (CEN).
- Experience of holding own clinical caseload.
- Experience of working within the NHS. Additional Criteria Essential
- Keen to embrace change and work flexibly to support the patient caseload and wider team.
- Punctual and reliable.
- Ability to use required IT systems effectively.
- Ability to work weekends as part of a 7 day working pattern (when appropriate service delivery allows and commences). Desirable
- Ability to communicate in more than one language (e.g. bilingual) Person Specification Qualifications Essential
