Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist to join our Community/Pre-School Team, supporting children and families across community clinics in the London Borough of Brent. This role is ideal for therapists in the early stages of their career or those looking to further develop their clinical practice. You will benefit from structured support to build your clinical skills, independence, and confidence within a friendly and collaborative Early Years community service. Delivering Speech and Language Therapy assessment, intervention, and support for children in early years settings, working with increasing independence. Supporting children, families, and professionals to improve communication outcomes. We can offer:o A supportive team environment with Speech and Language Therapists and multidisciplinary colleagues.o A programme of support, supervision and Continuing Professional Development for newly qualified Band 5s to ensure competencies are met, with regular support meetings with senior colleagues.o Access to clinical specialists for second opinions and supporto Opportunities for continuous professional development through a range of learning experiences including opportunities to shadow colleagues and membership of Clinical Excellence Networks (CENs)o Involvement in a range of projects and training packages, Key Responsibilitieso Assess speech, language, and communication needs using a range of toolso Manage and prioritise a defined caseload with appropriate supervision and supporto Develop and deliver evidence-based intervention planso Monitor progress and adapt intervention to meet individual needso Make informed clinical decisions, including discharge, within scope of practice and competenceo Provide clear feedback and reports to families and professionalso Work in partnership with parents, carers, and early years staffo Provide advice and strategies to support communication development at home and in settingso Support children with a wide range of needs, recognising and valuing cultural, linguistic, and individual diversityo Communicate sensitively, particularly when sharing difficult informationo Contribute to Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) assessments and annual reviewso Work collaboratively with health, education and social care professionalso Participate in team discussions to support coordinated care planningo Liaise with interpreters and other support services when requiredo Maintain accurate clinical records in line with HCPC and RCSLT standardso Provide informal and formal training to parents, carers, and staffo Support assistants, students, and volunteers as appropriateo Participate in audit, data collection, and service improvemento Maintain confidentiality and data protection standards at all times

• Degree and Licence to Practise from the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists
• Current registered membership of HCPC and RCSLT with the right to work in the UK, Experience training others
• Adult-Child Interaction(ACI)
• Working with multi-cultural client groups, Awareness of needs of parents, teachers and others
• Flexibility
• Good problem solving skills
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
• Highly developed auditory and perceptual skills in the assessment diagnosis and treatment of children with a broad range of speech, language and communication difficulties
• Well developed concentration skills
• Good auditory discrimination skills and ability to transcribe speech phonetically
• Manual dexterity for signing
• Manual dexterity sufficient to carry out swallowing assessment and use of high and low technical assessment equipment
• Understanding of Normal Child Development including Speech and Language, Play and other milestones
• Knowledge of appropriate range of assessments and interventions for children with Speech, Language and Communication impairments and an ability to compare and contrast relative benefits to individual children
• Understanding of Education Practice and Policy and National Curriculum including Children and Families Act 2014
• Religious, Cultural and Linguistic issues impacting upon caseload management
• Awareness of national policies and procedures (relevant to school aged children)
• Awareness of the principles of audit
• Understanding of the roles of other professionals (relevant to the client group)
• Knowledge of professional standards of record keeping
• Contribution of other agencies in supporting school aged children, Knowledge of Clinical Governance
• Knowledge of Principles and models of Adult-Child Interaction, To be occupational health cleared for the role specified
• IT literate and able to use a range of specialist programmes
• Able to maintain prolonged concentration in order to assess the speech, language and communication skills of school-aged children using formal and informal assessments
