Full Job Description
- To provide Audiology cover to Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Outpatients Department clinics including masked air and bone condition audiometry and tympanometry.
- To discuss results with patients and their family/ carer.
- To undertake Stage A daily calibration checks and maintain records for Audiological equipment.
- Routine aspects of all adult hearing aid and rehabilitation service within the department, including clinics at community sites and domiciliary visiting.
- Interpretation of results by collating all available information to decide on appropriate management: to include whether further audiological assessment is needed, ENT referral is required, or decide on treatment such as hearing aid fitting or therapy requirements.
- Explain results to patients and where appropriate the importance of ongoing surveillance.
- Ability to take accurate ear impressions on patients of all ages, according to the British Society of Audiology recommended procedures.
- Verifying hearing aid prescriptions using probe tube microphone measurements.
- Attendance at regular staff meetings and internal/external training courses as appropriate.
- Transporting expensive equipment, stock (to include hearing aids and consumables) to community hospitals or outreach clinics as required.
- To keep the patient management system (Auditbase) up to date so that patients' progress is monitored, rehabilitation schedules are adhered to, and stock is appropriately managed.
This role is for a Level 6 Healthcare Science Apprenticeship in Audiology at Aston University. You will study part-time and will qualify with a BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science (Audiology) degree on completion, plus an Apprenticeship Certificate. We are offering to pay a salary and fund your learning as you work towards gaining a degree in Audiology with Aston University., Aged 16 or over.- Been resident in the UK/EU for the last 3 years.- Must NOT have a qualification at the same level or above in the same or a related field, or already be in any form of formal government-funded education at the point of enrolment.- Must have 5 GCSEs in total which must include a GCSE band 4/grade C and above or Level 2 Functional Skills or equivalent in Mathematics and English and be able to provide certification.- 3 x A-levels at ABB, including 1 Science A-level, or BTEC equivalent at DDD.- Applicants with Level 4 Audiology Apprenticeship qualifications can be considered (alongside the other eligibility criteria) for entry. However, the university cannot use the Level 4 as accreditation of prior learning (APL) as these do not currently directly map to the level 6.
