Having gained further funding to expand the team, we are looking to recruit a number of Band 4 Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioners on 2 year fixed term contracts

  • OR Band 5 Qualified Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners / Educational Mental Health Practitioners on permanent contracts .
  • Band 4 Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioners are development posts and subject to completion and passing of your training period, as agreed through your selected University. After successfully completing the course and gaining your qualification, you are able to apply for job vacancies as a Band 5 Qualified Education Mental Health Practitioner. Band 4 Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioners will be offered a Health Education England (HEE) funded place to train at a selected University (likely Northampton), in delivering Low Intensity Cognitive Behavior Therapy (LI- CBT) evidence-based early interventions, and Whole Setting Approach initiatives (WSA) within education settings. Candidates will work within a clinical team to ensure mild to moderate mental health and emotion wellbeing support is provided. The Mental Health Support Team is an early intervention service, working with children, young people, and their families with mild to moderate mental health needs within Birmingham and Solihull. The team is comprised of a range of different clinicians, all working together to support young people as early as possible, to prevent their needs escalating and having a long term impact on their wellbeing. We have 3 core functions: · To deliver evidence-based interventions for mild-to-moderate mental health issues. · Support the senior mental health lead in each school or college to introduce or develop whole school or college approach and, · Give timely advice to school and college staff and liaise with external specialist service to help children and young people to get the right support and stay in education. A typical clinical day may involve delivering assemblies and workshops to a primary and secondary schools and further education settings. You may then travel to health centers, homes or education settings to deliver some one-to-one or a group session of low intensity CBT intervention. You may then attend your own supervision, plan/create resources and attend team meetings. Travel across the Birmingham and Solihull area is expected. Throughout the day there will be good access to support and connection from your colleagues. This trainee role includes funding you to attend training at University to complete your Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Mental Health Practice., This is an exciting opportunity to work within our Mental Health Support Team (MHST.) We work across the city of Birmingham and Solihull to support young people and their families who may be facing mental and emotional health issues. Candidates under supervision and with support, will develop knowledge & practice skills in delivering evidence-based intervention for CYP in education setting with mild to moderate mental health difficulties. Helping CYP within the settings who present with more severe problems to access more specialist services. Candidates will support/facilitate staff in education settings to identify, and where appropriate, manage issues related to mental health & wellbeing. This will involve working closely in education settings and playing a pivotal part of developing and delivering whole setting/school approach work.

    1. Must be willing to participate in any relevant training/qualification identified to develop skills required to carry out duties. Also must be able to travel to regular in person university teaching days.
  • 2. Must possess an undergraduate degree or equivalent 3. Care qualification to NVQ 3 or equivalent experience 4. GCSE English grade 9 to 4 or equivalent experience. 5. Role holders will be required to have the relevant qualifications to be admitted to the Postgraduate Diploma in Mental Health Practice in Educational Settings (EMHP). You must be able to commence onto the EMHP course in October 2026.
