Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant to join our team on a 10-bedded male Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The unit provides a supportive and dynamic environment with opportunities to develop and enhance clinical skills and knowledge in acute mental health care.

The role will involve assisting in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care under the guidance of qualified nursing staff. The post holder will be expected to have an awareness of relevant local and national policies and legislation that underpin current service provision.

You will support the delivery of therapeutic and social activities for patients and contribute to the development of effective therapeutic relationships, recognising and respecting individual needs relating to spirituality, equality, and diversity in line with best practice and legislation.

The post holder will maintain effective communication with the multidisciplinary team, promote a safe and therapeutic ward environment, and act in a professional manner that supports recovery-focused care for patients with complex mental health needs.

Main duties of the job

The 10-bedded male PICU provides intensive, structured care for individuals with acute and complex mental health needs, focusing on recovery and person-centred care.

Patients require enhanced observation and support, with the multidisciplinary team working together to promote stabilisation and progression to less restrictive settings.

The post holder will support the nursing team in delivering safe, effective care, maintaining a therapeutic environment, undertaking observations, and supporting risk management.

The service operates 24/7, requiring flexibility to work shifts including nights and weekends. Regular supervision and development opportunities are provided. A positive attitude, teamwork, and a commitment to compassionate care are essential.
