Full Job Description
As a member of the North Middlesex University Hospital Phlebotomy team, the post holder will be expected to undertake a variety of phlebotomy duties within in our inpatient service and at our community hubs as directed by the phlebotomy management in order to provide a safe, effective and resilient phlebotomy service. The successful candidate will be part of a dedicated phlebotomy team based at North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust and will work in our Outpatient clinic, inpatient Wards and in our local community hubs, as directed by the service management. You must be willing to work cross site and at any associated outreach clinics within the Trust as and when required. The shifts will usually be anything between the hours of 07:30-18:00 however these are subject to change depending on service needs. The Phlebotomy team covers weekend duties on a rotational basis; therefore flexibility of the successful candidate is essential. Please note:

North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust is a medium sized District General Hospital based in Edmonton in Enfield, North London. We serve a diverse multicultural population largely from the London boroughs of Enfield and Haringey. - To collect blood samples from hospital and General Practitioner patients using the Vacutainer system according to the Trust protocol.
- To ensure correct patient and sample identification at all times.
- To ensure samples are collected in the correct sample containers, correctly labelled and delivered to the laboratory within designated timelines
- To work as a member of the phlebotomy team at our hospital and community sites as designated by service management
- To co-operate fully with other staff to provide the most effective service to our patients.
- To perform Glucose Tolerance Tests and other specialised tests as and when required.
- to take blood samples from children after relevant training and competence has been achieved.
- To select the appropriate venepuncture site to ensure the suitability of blood samples and adhere to strict protocols around sample taking.
- To ensure that mandatory training is completed and up to date as per Trust policy and undertake annual knowledge and clinical venepuncture skills assessments and apprasisals
- Be responsible for the safe disposal of contaminated materials, including sharps following IPC guidelines and best practice.
- Be responsible for monitoring and replenishing of clinical consumables and stock.
- Support other members of staff in their orientation to the department and role.
- Be aware of and participate in the reporting of any incidents using the online DATIX system
- Participate fully as a member of the phlebotomy team, share knowledge and information, support colleagues, actively promote a cohesive clinical team and support the achievement of team objectives.
