Band 2 Material Movement Operative

The Material Movement Operative role at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (part of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust) supports the efficient day-to-day operation of logistics and supply chain services across hospital departments. Working in a fast-paced environment, the role involves Picking linen, transporting goods, medical supplies, waste, and post across multiple sites to ensure timely delivery of essential items. Key duties include handling theatre instruments, managing waste, delivering pharmacy supplies, and operating a 3.5-tonne vehicle. The position requires strong communication, time management, and teamwork skills, with flexibility to adapt to different tasks as needed., As a Material Movement Operative, you will play a vital role in supporting the efficient operation of logistics services across the Trust. Working in a fast-paced environment, your duties will include:

Collecting, handling, and disposing of clinical, hazardous, and general waste from theatres, wards, and other areas in line with Trust policies.

Transporting and managing clean and contaminated theatre instruments, ensuring strict adherence to hygiene and infection prevention standards.

Delivering stock, linen, food items, post, and other essential supplies to wards and departments using appropriate equipment such as roll cages and trolleys.

Ensuring the secure and timely delivery of pharmacy items in accordance with relevant procedures and regulations.

Picking, packing, and preparing linen for distribution, maintaining accuracy and high hygiene standards.

Operating mechanical handling equipment and a company 3.5-tonne vehicle safely, carrying out routine checks and reporting any faults.

Following delivery schedules to ensure all tasks are completed efficiently and within required timeframes.

Complying with all Health & Safety legislation, including COSHH and medicines management regulations, ensuring the safe handling and transport of goods.

Supporting emergency situations, including fire and major incidents, and assisting emergency services where required.
