Full Job Description

As a Healthcare Assistant, your workload will be varied and at times challenging. Being able to multitask efficiently while maintaining a caring, calm and supportive attitude will be essential. These qualities will help you make a real difference to your team, and to the patients and relatives who rely on us every day. Strong communication and organisational skills are key to succeeding in this role.

In this role, you will be expected to:

Greet all patients and visitors to the department with courtesy, warmth and compassion.

Observe and report any changes in a patient's physical or psychological condition to the registered nurse.

Support families and carers following a bereavement or when difficult news has been shared.

Assist patients with personal care, offering comfort and reassurance when they are in pain or distressed.

Support patients with eating and drinking when required and ensure accurate completion of patient notes.

As a valued member of our team, you will be reliable, committed and aligned with our Trust values of Kind, Connected and Bold. We believe we can offer you not just your next job, but the foundation of a long and rewarding career.

Do you have recent healthcare experience and a desire to put others first? Do you find fulfilment in making a difference, offering comfort, dignity and kindness when people need it most? If so, Good Hope Hospital would be delighted to welcome you.

We are proud to care for patients across Birmingham and surrounding areas, delivering safe, compassionate, high-quality care every day. We are seeking individuals with hands-on experience who share our values and want to develop their careers. Bring the right attitude and experience, and we will support you throughout.

You will typically start as a Band 2, unless you already demonstrate Band 3 skills. From day one, you will receive a full Trust induction, ongoing training, and the opportunity to complete the Care Certificate. Once achieved, you will progress to Band 3 (if not already at this level), with continued support from colleagues and our School of Nursing. Many of our nurses began as Healthcare Assistants, making this an excellent first step.

Flexible working is available, with 12.5-hour shifts across days, nights and weekends, usually three or four per week, supporting work--life balance.

Please note we are only accepting applications for a minimum of 23 working hours.

To apply, you will need recent healthcare experience and GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above (or UK equivalent), or an ENIC certificate.

If you are ready to make a difference, we would love to hear from you.

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust strives to have an inclusive culture where everyone feels like they belong, can thrive, knows that they add value and feels valued. We do this by developing compassionate and culturally competent leaders, being values driven in all that we do and by creating a welcoming and inclusive workplace that thrives on the diversity of our people. As such we want to attract and recruit talented individuals from all backgrounds, and for each of you to feel supported for the diversity you bring, to achieve your full potential. For those staff with a disability, including physical disability, long term health condition, mental health or neurodiverse condition, this also means being committed to making reasonable adjustments needed for you to carry out your role.

In return, you can expect a permanent contract with one of the NHS's largest Trusts, access to the NHS Pension Scheme, and additional benefits such as overtime opportunities, shift allowances and eligibility for the Blue Light Discount Card.
