Full Job Description

Due to internal movement we have an opportunity for a Highly Specialist Speech & Language Therapist to join our Specialist Surgery & Lung Transplant team at QEHB, for 12 months. Our service supports a wide range of patient cohorts who have communication and/or swallowing disorders including lung, heart, renal and liver transplant; gastroenterology; cardiology and thoracics. This includes pre- and post-lung transplant dysphagia assessment and intervention. We have a large yet close-knit, highly skilled team who contribute to our robust supervision structure. Innovation, participation in research and clinical/professional development are actively encouraged. We have a well-established SLT led Videofluoroscopy and FEES services so opportunities to access these instrumental assessments to help to shape your clinical practice would also be available., The successful candidate would provide highly specialist input Specialist Surgery team, alongside a peer team leader. You would work closely with your peer SLT Team Leader, Specialist Speech and Language Therapists and SLT assistants to provide an excellent level of care to our patient group. The successful candidate will have a clear passion in assessing and managing dysphagia and communication difficulties relating to the specialist surgery and lung transplant caseload in a fast-paced environment. Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • assessing and managing patients with communication, airway and swallowing disorders
  • service development and audit
  • training and supervision of junior colleagues and students
  • working flexibly and thriving in a fast-paced environment
  • Utilising specialist assessments including FEES
  • Regular quality improvement projects
  • Involvement in audit, research and presenting patient outcomes
  • We have a large team who share a caseload of diverse patient cohorts so being a team player is essential.
