Full Job Description

Manage technical and scientific work of the Biochemistry service within the Automation laboratory across both John Radcliffe, and Churchill laboratories. Provide support to the Horton Laboratory in Banbury. Provide an efficient and cost-effective analytical laboratory service in accordance with agreed policy. Work with the other Lead Biomedical Scientists and sample reception seniors to develop and improve laboratory services. Liaise closely with the Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory Manager and clinical leads to ensure the service meets present and future demands for acute and primary care.,

  • Be responsible for maintaining standards for UKAS 15189 in conjunction with departmental quality managers.
  • To provide overall management organisation and operational problem solving on a daily basis for the automation department of biochemistry
  • Be responsible for the review of working practices to introduce, as far as practicable, standardised procedures
  • Facilitate and provide leadership for the introduction and development of new technologies, methodologies and systems of work for service improvement as appropriate.
  • Participate in recruitment, staff induction and competencies, and training.
  • Be responsible for laboratory equipment management such as consumables, liaison with suppliers regarding maintenance performance and fault resolution.
  • Review performance of the section through IQC, EQA and TAT review. Work with Quality team to maintain and improve performance.
  • Assist in business continuity management and laboratory resilience.
  • Provide section staff support and apply Trust policies through the implementation of absence management procedures and appraisals.
  • Work with the Training officer to identify staff training needs and facilitate ongoing staff development., To coordinate and manage the day to day operational activity of the automated biochemistry laboratory to ensure efficient and effective patient pathway delivery.
  • Provide leadership, organisation and operational problem solving for the biochemistry service Ensure quality assurance and quality control is maintained ensuring accreditation to UKAS standards Manage laboratory equipment and liaise with suppliers regarding maintenance performance and fault resolution. Ensure health and safety guidelines and policies are fully adhered

  • HCPC registered and appropriate masters level qualification or equivalent, Management Qualification, Highly developed theoretical and practical specialist knowledge of a range of biochemistry tests and procedures.
  • Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience in NHS Diagnostic laboratory
  • Previous experience with equipment in use at OUH, Demonstrates the ability to supervise, motivate and train staff
  • Evidence of a significant contribution to a service development in a senior BMS role.
