Associate - Upstream Oil & Gas (Transactional) - London

We are seeking a high-calibre England & Wales qualified associate (4 - 6 PQE) to join a growing energy practice, with a focus on upstream oil and gas transactions. This is an opportunity to join a dynamic and expanding practice, working on high-profile international matters with significant responsibility and clear progression prospects. This role will suit a technically strong, commercially minded lawyer looking to work closely with senior partners on complex, cross-border mandates, with a high degree of responsibility and client exposure.

The Practice

The team advises a high calibre and diverse client base, including supermajors, Middle Eastern national oil companies, independent E&P companies and commodity trading houses. We work across a broad spectrum of upstream matters, including country entries, equity investments and alternative financing structures in the upstream sector, alongside core project and transactional work.

Key Requirements

  • England & Wales qualified lawyer with 4 - 6 years' post-qualification experience

  • Strong grounding in upstream oil & gas transactions, gained in private practice or in-house

  • Demonstrated experience drafting and negotiating a range of core upstream agreements, including:

    • Concession agreements, production sharing contracts (PSCs), EPCCs, EPSAs, royalty regimes and risk-based service contracts

    • Joint Operating Agreements (JOAs)

    • Farm-in / farm-out agreements

    • Unitisation agreements

    • Lifting agreements and gas sales agreements

    • Crude oil and gas transportation agreements

Role & Responsibilities

  • Act as a key support to partners on complex upstream transactions across multiple jurisdictions

  • Take a lead role in drafting and negotiating transaction documentation

  • Manage discrete workstreams with increasing autonomy

  • Work closely with clients

  • Contribute to business development initiatives and client relationship management

The Firm

When you work at Clyde & Co, you join a team of 500 partners, 2,400 lawyers, 3,200 legal professionals and 5,500 people in nearly 70 offices and associated offices worldwide. Our values are the principles that guide the decisions we make, unite us in our endeavours and strengthen our delivery, for both our clients and our firm. We work as one, excel with clients, celebrate difference and act boldly. We are committed to operating in a responsible way by progressing towards a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects the communities and clients it serves. We are devoted to providing an environment in which everyone can realise their potential, using its legal and professional skills to support its communities. We do this through pro bono work, volunteering and charitable partnerships, and minimising the impact it has on the environment, including through our commitment to the SBTi Net-Zero standard and the setting of ambitious emissions reduction targets.

Our Commitment

Clyde & Co is proud to be an equal opportunities employer. Our values encourage us to support fairness, celebrate diversity and prohibit all forms of discrimination in the workplace to allow everyone to excel at work. Therefore, we welcome and encourage all applications from suitably qualified individuals, regardless of background or identity.
