Full Job Description

The Associate Medical Director for Quality, Safety and Mortality will be a substantive consultant or senior doctor within the Trust. The post holder will report to the Director for Safety, and Medical Director, and in addition work closely with the Chief Nursing Officer. The post holder will be administratively supported by the officer of the Medical Director. This Trust strives to embrace quality improvement as a central tenet of our desire to remove unwarranted variation and to standardise care models across our hospitals. This Trust continually strives to strengthen and systematise quality improvement within the organisation and build on the QI capability developed through in-house training and local QI activity. The post-holder will act as a role model and leader who expects high standards of performance whilst motivating, growing talent, and developing a trust wide service.Main duties of the job To lead in defining, developing, and implementing the Trust-wide infrastructure required to support the quality and safety improvement strategy, initiating and implementing organisational changes to respond to service delivery needs. Represent the Trust and present its work to wider audiences both nationally and internationally Develop strategic and collaborative partnerships with universities and other partners to develop our academic links and consider accreditation of QI. Work with Care Groups and Governance teams on agendas related to PSIRF, GIRFT, NICE, NCEPOD and various national audit outputs to become business as usual and drive change. Re-fresh and evolve the quality strategy with colleagues across the Trust. The post holder will lead the delivery of the Trust Quality Improvement Programme, supporting the Chief Nursing Officer and senior medical leaders, ensuring the key milestones are achieved. The post holder will develop external bids for funding, awards, and support for QI, in line with local plans and strategies.

  • Have the leadership ability to lead for the Medical Director and represent the Trust in a challenging and competitive environment as well as in collaborative external settings.
  • Have the ability to work collaboratively with nursing and other colleagues.
  • Have the leadership skills to make direct decisions and design strategy for the Trust.
  • Provide strong professional and clinical quality improvement leadership across the organisation, overseeing the quality improvement agenda in the organisation., A commitment to continuous improvement is essential, including a willingness to tackle difficult issues firmly but sensitively
  • The post-holder will build a wide range of contacts with respect to quality, safety and mortality both within and beyond the Trust
