Full Job Description

Meta seeks a highly motivated and experienced litigator to serve as Associate General Counsel, Civil Litigation. In this role, you will lead and manage a broad docket of complex civil disputes, with particular emphasis on privacy law and GDPR subject-matter in the context of collective redress, including class and representative-style actions, as well as multi-party and cross-border litigation. You will develop and execute litigation strategy across German courts and international forums, advise internal stakeholders on risk and coordinate closely with cross-functional partners in Legal, Compliance, Policy, and the business. The role requires demonstrated experience with German civil procedure and evidence rules, experience navigating EU-level collective redress frameworks, and a practical, business-oriented approach to resolving complex disputes in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities and time-sensitive legal deadlines., 1. Owning end-to-end litigation strategy and execution for complex civil matters in Germany and across jurisdictions
2. Expertise in privacy and GDPR-related litigation. Leading on collective actions, including representative and model proceedings, and coordinating global strategy where cases span multiple jurisdictions
3. Managing outside counsel to ensure efficient, high-quality work product, align litigation strategy with business objectives, and drive consistent positions in related matters
4. Advising on pre-litigation dispute resolution processes, handling interim relief and injunction practice, and structure effective settlement strategies where appropriate
5. Advising internal stakeholders on litigation risk and strategy and partnering with Product, Operations, Policy and Communications teams in this context
6. Overseeing matter budgets, reporting, and governance, ensuring timely updates and clear communication to leadership
7. Monitoring legal developments in German and EU civil procedure and litigation regimes, and translating those developments into actionable guidance for the business

8. Meta requires all employed attorneys to have a law degree or equivalent certificate to permit the practice of law and be appropriately licensed and authorized to practice law for the company in their assigned work location. Unless prohibited under local law, an attorney must hold a current practicing certificate (including where required from the relevant authority in the jurisdiction of the assigned work location) or the local law equivalent bar registration or license as may be applicable
9. You are qualified to practice law in Germany, with approximately 8 years of post-qualification experience focused on complex civil litigation in Germany, and substantial cross-jurisdictional experience managing parallel or related proceedings in other EU or international forums
10. Fluent in German and English, as the role requires managing litigation in German courts and coordinating with international teams and stakeholders in English, with a track record of effective written and oral advocacy, and experience working with cross-functional teams in a technology-driven environment with shifting priorities and time-sensitive deadlines

11. Experience handling collective redress proceedings, including representative actions, model case proceedings, or multi-party litigation under German or EU frameworks
12. Experience with GDPR and privacy-related litigation, including regulatory enforcement defense and civil claims arising from data protection matters
13. Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
14. Demonstrated ability to manage significant outside counsel relationships and litigation budgets effectively
15. Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
16. Experience managing cross-border litigation and coordinating with international counsel across multiple jurisdictions
17. Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
18. Experience working in-house at a technology company or advising technology clients on complex civil disputes
