Associate Director

You'll join a growing and evolving division, leading a range of design and sustainability projects. This will include our work with the Ministry of Justice on the Future Prisons Programme - a sole supplier framework expected to continue over several years. The projects you'll be involved in will be diverse, covering both new builds and refurbishments. You'll manage a broad range of workstreams including climate change risk assessments, life cycle assessments, focus on energy strategies and carbon footprint, renewable energy feasibility studies and post occupancy evaluations. To support the execution of this work, we need a skilled and passionate leader who can oversee project delivery, ensuring smooth inter-disciplinary coordination. You will look to develop client relationships and be the first point of contact for all Sustainability and Energy workstreams. Your core responsibilities will include:

• Contribute to the Senior Management Team, working with other senior colleagues to manage and direct the department.
• Provide strong leadership to manage and direct allocated teams and ensure work is carried out to the required standard, quality, and efficiency, that it meets governance requirements to achieve and exceed business forecast targets.
• Undertake line management duties and provide pastoral care to the team assigned to you.
• Champion sustainability best-practice and ensure the business keeps sustainability at the forefront of everything we do.
• Ensure work is carried out to the required standard, quality, and efficiency, and that it meets governance requirements to achieve and exceed business forecast targets.
• Oversee and co-ordinate activities to ensure that workload is properly managed across teams.
• Be the daily point of contact for the MoJ's Climate Change and Sustainability Unit.
  
  Our ideal Associate Director will have:
• A relevant degree or MSc in Sustainability
• Detailed understanding of embodied carbon, operational carbon and Net Zero carbon design.
• Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal with strong interpersonal skills.
• Excellent leadership characteristics and people skills - ability to effectively communicate, understand and empathise with everyone you interact with.
• Proven commercial skills and experience including client management, presentation skills and the ability to secure new work packages where there are opportunities
• Experience in managing people
• Up to date knowledge of current sustainability and energy legislation.
• Excellent understanding of sustainable design solutions.
• Excellent understanding of the Ministry of Justice or equivalent Central Government body
