Full Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic rail professional to join our Rail and Transit Advisory Team in London to drive growth in our rail planning and wider transport advisory capability. The successful candidate will have extensive industry expertise and a strong track record in delivering consultancy projects in the rail and transit advisory space. You will be responsible for leading the delivery of advisory services across the full spectrum of our service offer, encompassing project feasibility studies, commercial analysis and strategy development, demand & revenue forecasting, cost forecasting, economic appraisal, business case development and rail operations. You will be responsible for building strong client relationships and driving growth in our portfolio of work, helping our clients advance, plan for and invest in sustainable transport and play a leading role in supporting Rail Reform activity in GB Rail. You will have a network of valuable contacts you can build on to support this. While rail and transit advisory services are the primary focus of the role, you will have the flexibility to apply your skills and experience across wider transport planning projects and geographies outside the UK. This role will report to the Rail and Transit Advisory Practice Manager and will have responsibility for managing, developing and growing our dynamic London-based team. The successful candidate will have strong experience of working with colleagues across a multi-disciplinary business to build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders in addition to external clients. This is a high-profile role within AtkinsRéalis where you will be responsible for providing transport advisory leadership into the wider business. You will

  • Lead the delivery of rail and transit advisory projects.
  • Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with agreed timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Identify, pursue and secure new business opportunities, including working with our Global market teams to expand our client base and service offerings.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to project teams, ensuring effective collaboration and communication.
  • Provide expert advice to clients across our core service offering of project feasibility, rail policy, commercial strategy, demand, revenue and cost forecasting, economic analysis and business case preparation.
  • Oversee the preparation of project documentation, including business cases, project plans, and progress reports.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement in project delivery processes and methodologies.

    Proven track record in delivering transport advisory projects and schemes on time and to budget across our core service lines: project feasibility, transport market studies, demand & revenue forecasting, transport economics and appraisal, commercial analysis and contracting.
  • Strong understanding of the UK transport sector, with a particular focus on the role of DfT, Network Rail and all national and sub national transport bodies in the UK rail industry.
  • Good awareness of the changes underway to transition to GBR, and the impacts and opportunities rail reform presents across the sector.
  • A network of client relationships that you can draw on to develop new business opportunities and win new work including key UK clients such as DfT, GBR, Network Rail, Train Operators, TfL and Combined Authorities.
  • Experience in project leadership and team / line management, including development and mentoring of junior staff.
  • Strong stakeholder and client management skills, analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically and drive innovative solutions.
  • Strong technical experience in the application of industry standard principles and guidance across a range of technical disciplines including demand forecasting (Passenger Demand Forecasting Handbook), economic appraisal (Department for Transport TAG and HMT Green Book) and spreadsheet modelling best practice.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • An exceptional client focus, and commitment to exceeding clients' expectations.
  • Relevant degree and professional qualification in transport, engineering, project management, or a related field.
