Do you want to make a real difference to young people's lives? Then this is a fantastic opportunity for you to 'Step into Youth Work'. The Targeted Youth Support team, part of Lancashire County Council's Children and Family Wellbeing Service, are looking to recruit a 6 hour a week worker as Assistant Youth Support Workers for Burnley District, who is enthusiastic, organised, and passionate about making a difference and changing young people's lives.

This post is evening work - usually between the times of 6:30-9:30pm across two evenings. The Service is a key contributor to the prevention and early intervention/early help agenda for Lancashire County Council. It enables young people to succeed by providing high quality informal education opportunities to promote their personal and social development. It supports young people who are challenged in education, their communities or home life to ensure a successful transition to adulthood.

Youth work focuses on personal and social development - the skills and attributes of young people - rather than to 'fix a problem'. It is an educational process that engages with young people in a curriculum that deepens a young person's understanding of themselves, their community, and the world in which they live and supports them to proactively bring about positive changes.

In Lancashire, the Targeted Youth Support Team deliver core youth work, including:

  • Detached/outreach working on the streets with young people

  • Special Educational Needs & Disability working with young people 11 - 19 (up to 25 if SEN)

  • Safe spaces offering targeted youth places and spaces to meet the needs of the young people and the community

  • Youth voice support through district youth councils, linked to Lancashire Youth Council, regional and national work

  • Enhanced programmes such as LGBTQ+ groups or specific issue-based groups, including mental health groups

If you think you have the skills, are keen to work with young people, and make a difference in their lives, then please apply.

As part of the role, you will be required to undertake your level 2 youth work qualification. If you do not have one, you will be supported by Lancashire County Council to complete this, in terms of time to complete it and the cost of the course.

Closing Date: Sunday 25th July 2025
