Assistant Transport Development Officer

The Traffic Regulation Order Team develop and deliver strategies, policies, projects, and programmes to improve Leicester's transport network and environment. Our portfolio covers various aspects of transport network in the city, such as introduction of residential parking schemes, delivery of advisory disabled bays for residents and implementation of Traffic Regulation Orders. The council policy is to help disabled residents with Blue Badges who have problems parking near their home, and to allow for parking bays which are specifically marked out to enable parking.
Join us as a specialist in providing advisory disabled bays for residents and delivering Traffic Regulation Orders covering the whole of the city. Technically astute you'll have administrative background able to support highway related projects.
This is a permanent, full-time position working 37 hours per week from Monday to Friday. You'll have the flexibility to work from our main base at City Hall or from home depending on experience and team requirements.
This is a career graded post (LG Band 05 - LG Band 07). Appointment to a level will depend on the outcome of the selection process and experience of the successful candidate. We would consider candidates who would like to undertake a secondment for a period of a year.
What you'll be doing
You'll manage and assist in implementation of advisory disabled bays, transport projects, especially those which bring an improvement in transport and reduction of parking related issues. You'll deal with advisory disabled bays applications, responding to customer queries, maintaining, and updating databases, and undertaking site visits. Following training, you'll mark out advisory disabled bays on highways. You'll work on Traffic Regulation Orders, varying in size and complexity, carrying out procurement exercises to engage construction contractors and relevant design consultants.
What you'll need
With project management skills, you'll be able to write reports, work to tight deadlines and work as part of a team to meet objectives. Proficient in using IT applications, you'll be able to produce letters, spreadsheets, reports, and presentations as well as understand computer design software such as AutoCAD. Using excellent communication, numerical and organisation skills, you'll be able to work collaboratively with colleagues, external and internal stakeholders to deliver projects within set deadlines and to budget. By undertaking surveying activities in connection with design preparation and setting out works for construction, you'll be able to undertake site supervision.
