Full Job Description

Assistant to SENCO (Special Needs Co-ordinator) Required for: 1st September 2026 (subject to satisfactory clearances). 35 hours per week term time only plus 5 training days. Initially fixed term to 31st August 2027 with a possibility of it becoming permanent.

Are you passionate about making a difference to the lives of young people? Do you have a commitment to inclusion and a drive to ensure every child gets the support they need to succeed?

We are seeking a dedicated and organised Assistant to the SENCo to join our team-someone who shares our belief that every child, regardless of their starting point, deserves the opportunity to thrive. This is a unique opportunity to play a vital role in shaping and strengthening our SEND/SEMH provision, supporting both staff and students, and helping to remove barriers to learning across our school.

Our Mission:
We believe every child deserves the opportunity to thrive-academically, socially, and emotionally. Our school is committed to creating an inclusive environment where differences are celebrated, and every learner feels valued. Guided by our core value of "Aiming For Excellence. Achieving Together' we work tirelessly to remove barriers to learning and empower students to reach their full potential.

The Impact You'll Make:
As our Assistant to the SENCo, you will work closely with them to support and develop our SEND/SEMH provision. You will ensure that the systems, records, and communications that underpin our support for pupils with additional needs run smoothly so our teachers can focus on teaching, and our students can focus on learning.

You will also support our teaching assistants to develop their practice and expertise, helping to build a skilled and confident team around our learners. Working alongside colleagues, you will contribute to the development and effectiveness of our internal provisions, including The Hub, The Hive and The Learning Lounge. Your work will directly contribute to better outcomes for some of our most vulnerable learners.

What You'll Do:
· Support the SENCo in coordinating provision for pupils with SEND, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
· Support the SENCo in maintaining accurate and up-to-date SEND records, including EHCP documentation and provision maps.
· Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies to arrange meetings, share information, and follow up on actions.
· Prepare reports, data summaries, and resources to support teaching staff in meeting pupils' needs.
· Help organise and track interventions, ensuring impact is monitored and reported.
. Provide administrative support for annual reviews, referrals, and assessments.
· Support the delivery of staff training to ensure effective strategies are in place to meet pupils' needs.
· Support pupils with SEMH needs by leading initiatives such as breakfast club for those who find attending school challenging, delivering nurture provision, running lunchtime clubs, and implementing targeted interventions including music therapy and Lego therapy.

· Experience in an educational or administrative role, ideally within a SEND context.
· Strong organisational skills and attention to detail-you can juggle multiple priorities without losing sight of the bigger picture.
· Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with staff, parents, and external professionals.
· A working knowledge of SEND processes and legislation (or a willingness to learn quickly).
· Empathy, patience, and a genuine commitment to inclusion.

Band E, SCP 18-25 £31,537-£36,363 pro rata (£16.35-18.85 per hour) (actual £26,734-£31,089 per annum), · A supportive, collaborative team that values your ideas and initiative.
· Ongoing professional development, including SEND-specific training.
· Opportunities to make a visible difference in the lives of children and families.
· Access to wellbeing support and staff networks.
· Term-time working pattern for a healthy work-life balance.

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to clearances in accordance with KCSIE. An online search will be undertaken on all shortlisted candidates. This search does not form part of the shortlisting process and you will have the opportunity to discuss any issues of concern that may arise from this search at the interview.
