Assistant Solicitor / Solicitor - Housing

We are looking for a solicitor, barrister or Chartered Legal Executive with the appropriate practice rights to join our Child Care team on a permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity to take on a varied child protection caseload and develop your expertise in a supportive, high-performing legal team. You will advise and represent Children's Services across the full range of childcare work, including court proceedings, Legal Planning Meetings, pre-proceedings and Children Act applications.

You will manage your own caseload and undertake advocacy where required. You will bring at least 12 months' post-qualification experience in childcare law or another contentious area, together with advocacy experience, sound judgement and strong communication skills. We also welcome applications from candidates with transferable advocacy skills and a strong interest in building a career in child protection.

You will be a confident and organised advocate with strong client care skills, able to manage competing deadlines and work effectively both independently and as part of a team. This is a hybrid role with some office attendance in Shrewsbury, alongside travel within the county, across West Midlands court centres and occasionally further afield.
