Full Job Description

To assist with the effective supervision, security, maintenance and safe operation of the premises, site andfacilities.,

  • To assist with the safe operation of the premises when open to pupils and staff, when open for lettings and
  • to other functions, and in school closure periods, including be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the site in the absence of the senior member of staff.
  • To identify faults and to receive reports of faults and to act within the protocols of the school to affect
  • timely repairs and remedial actions.
  • To report faults to the Facilities Manager when the repair or remedy is significant, potentially expensive
  • and when there is a risk to the health and safety of staff, pupils, visitors and others on the school site.
  • To undertake routine maintenance schedules and programmes, in line with health, safety and other
  • legislative requirements.
  • To undertake external cleaning duties, snow clearance and treatment of pathways and steps with salt, grit
  • and/ or sand during periods of ice and snow.
  • Collecting litter.
  • To assist with the waste disposal and recycling services.
  • To participate in a rota for out-of-hours supervision and actions in the event of an emergency or incident.
  • To assist with the implementation of the Emergency School Closure procedures in the event of inclement
  • weather or power failure.
  • Porterage duties.
  • Key holding and site security.
  • To undertake as directed routine testing of services including, but not limited to, the fire alarm, boilers,
  • portable appliances, air conditioning units, swimming pool, 4G pitch and water supply.
  • Preparing facilities for external hire
  • To undertake the physical arrangements for Parents' Evenings, Open Evenings, special events and other
  • functions, including setting out tables, chairs and other furniture as directed by senior staff.
  • Undertake minor painting and decorating.
  • Traffic control duties
  • Administration
  • To contribute to a central filing system for documents and reports relating to the safe operation of the
  • school site and services.
  • To respond to simple queries either in person or by telephone or e-mail, using own judgement to refer to
  • others as appropriate. Use of online packages such as School Hire and Spiceworks.
  • To contribute to a log of routine testing and have this available for inspection by the Facilities Manager or
  • statutory authority.
  • To arrange minor repairs in an emergency, out of hours.
  • Resources
  • Undertake the safe operation of specialist equipment, including heating and electrical equipment.
  • Effective use of basic IT equipment and packages.
  • Maintain an appropriate stock level of supplies of hand towels, toilet rolls and soap, and requisition
  • replacement stocks via the Facilities Manager., General
  • Using own judgement and/or as directed, manage risk according to school policy, including the use of risk
  • assessments pertaining to the safe operation of the site and services.Development
  • Take responsibility for own ongoing personal development and growth of expertise.
  • Train and develop other employees, for proper succession planning and risk management.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as requested by the Heads of Schools.

    Preferred
  • NVQ Level 2 or significant experience in a repairs and maintenance discipline
  • Fire warden or marshal training or a willingness to learn
  • COSHH regulations or a willingness to learn
  • Moving/Handling and Working at Height or a willingness to learn
  • PAT Testing or willingness to learn
  • Pool Emergency Response or willingness to learn
  • Previous Experience:Essential
  • Experience in maintenance and repairs role
  • Effective use of basic ICT packages
  • Working knowledge of relevant policies/ codes of practice/ legislation
  • Preferred
  • Experience as cleaner, janitor or maintenance person in a school or college or similar environment
  • Job Specific Skills:Essential
  • To participate in a rota including evenings and weekend working
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Preferred
  • Experience in decorating and minor repairs
