Assistant Psychologist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Assistant Psychologist, who is highly skilled in working with children and young people, to work within the Child Psychology Team in Bradford Hospital's Clinical Health Psychology service and Airedale Child Development Centre (CDC). The post holder will work as a member of two established multidisciplinary teams, providing specialist assessments of autism spectrum conditions (ASC), to children and young people aged 0-7y, and specialist therapeutic input to children and young people with diagnoses of long term physical health conditions. Within the ASC pathway, the role will involve offering support to children and their parents/carers during the ASC assessment processes, the delivery of observations in education and home settings, undertaking a variety of assessments with clinical oversight from a qualified Clinical Psychologist, and providing follow-up support after assessment/diagnosis. Within the General Paediatrics pathway, the role will involve delivering psychological support to children and young people with long term health conditions, supporting individual and group interventions, and service evaluations., The post holder will work as a member of established multidisciplinary teams, within Bradford Clinical Health Psychology and CDC services. The teams provide specialist assessments of autism spectrum conditions (ASC), to children and young people aged 0-7y, and specialist therapeutic input to children and young people with diagnoses of long term physical health conditions. To work within a multidisciplinary ASC assessment team to assist in assessment, to offer support to children and their parents/carers during the assessment processes, the delivery of observations in education and home settings, undertaking a variety assessments, with clinical oversight from a qualified Clinical Psychologist, and follow-up support after assessment/diagnosis. To work within teams delivering psychological support to children and young people with long term health conditions, to support individual and group interventions, and service evaluations. • Previous experience of working as an Assistant Clinical Psychologist
• Previous experience of working in the NHS, directly with people who present with behavioural, cognitive and emotional difficulties.
• Experience of working with children and young people, including those with ASC.
• Experience of using psychometric measures
• Experience of working in an MDT, Experience of working with children with complex health needs and/or disability, and their families, High level communication skills (written and verbal), including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be hostile, antagonistic or highly emotive.
• Knowledge of ASC and familiarity with tools for its assessment. To be ADOS trained.
• Experience in using databases and performing data analysis.
• Previous research and audit experience., Familiarity with other neuropsychological tests.
• Experience in writing high quality reports.
• Language skills in common with South Asian or Eastern European languages., Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
• Understanding of the principles of psychological and psychometric assessment
• An understanding of the psychological needs and difficulties of children and young people presenting with neurodevelopmental difference, Honours Degree in Psychology to at least 2i standard, or 2ii with relevant Masters degree.
• Eligible for HCPC Registration and/or Graduate membership of the BPS., Further post graduate training in relevant areas of psychology and/or research design and analysis, Ability to work professionally and ethically
• Ability to work independently whilst recognising own limits
• Ability to reflect on own practice and respond positively to clinical and professional supervision
• Ability to interact effectively with people with psychological, behaviour and cognitive problems
• Ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines
• Willingness to undertake professional training and development
• Able to demonstrate a clear interest in the advertised post and relate previous experience to the post
• Must have an independent means of motorised transport with access to a vehicle for work (or acceptable alternative).
