Assistant Psychologist

Hours: Full time, term time only. 8am-4pm Monday, Wednesday - Friday, 8-5pm on Tuesdays Responsible to: Regional Educational Psychologist Start date: November 2026 Your new school Gretton School welcomes autistic children and young people aged from 5-19 years old, as weekly boarders or as day learners. Every learner at Gretton has a diagnosis of Autism, and the ability to learn at or above the level of their mainstream peers, but require a specialist setting in order to achieve their remarkable potential. Your new role As an Assistant Psychologist, you will work under the supervision of the Regional Educational Psychologist, supporting the delivery of psychological assessments, interventions and therapeutic services across specialist educational settings. Key responsibilities will include:

• Assisting with psychological assessments and interventions for children and young people.
• Supporting the development and delivery of bespoke interventions for individuals and groups using psychological principles.
• Working directly with pupils, parents and school staff to implement psychological recommendations and strategies.
• Conducting classroom observations to inform practice and support positive outcomes.
• Measuring intervention impact and producing formal written reports.
• Supporting staff development through psychological thinking, reflective practice and coaching approaches.
• Contributing to research projects, data analysis, referral meetings and training workshops.
• Maintaining accurate records and participating in professional supervision and development.
This role is particularly suited to aspiring Educational Psychologists seeking hands-on experience within a specialist SEND and autism-focused environment. What you'll need to succeed To be considered for this Assistant Psychologist position, you will need:
• A minimum 2:1 Honours Degree in Psychology providing Graduate Basis for Registration with the British Psychological Society (BPS).
• Experience working with children, young people and families through education, youth work, mentoring, teaching or mental health support.
• A strong understanding of psychological theory and an interest in child development, learning and behaviour.
• Knowledge of the school system and Special Educational Needs Code of Practice.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Strong written, organisational and time management abilities.
• A compassionate, patient and adaptable approach.
• A full driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Candidates with experience applying psychology within educational or SEND settings will be particularly well suited to the role.
