Assistant Psychologist

We are looking for someone to work full time (37.5 hours), 30 hours are permanent and 7.5 hours fixed term for 12 months.

This is an exciting opportunity to be work within Specialist Palliative Care Services across Sunderland and South Tyneside. You will form part of a team of Clinical Psychologists and Psychological Practitioners developing and delivering psychology services for patients and relatives accessing specialist palliative care services within STSFT.

You will be involved in the provision of direct psychological assessment and interventions with the support of registered psychologists. You will support service development and audits, and training development and evaluation. You will receive high quality supervision from an experienced Psychologist within the team and there will be opportunities for CPD.

As part of this post, one day per week will be spent working on a regional project called the Improving Mental Wellbeing in Cancer Project. This has been commissioned by Macmillan, a national charity committed to improving the wellbeing of people affected by cancer. You will work closely with colleagues in the Northern Cancer Alliance (an NHS body, committed to improving services for people affected by Cancer across the North East and North Cumbria). The postholder will support the development of this work in the South Tyneside and Sunderland locality, working closely with the Lead Clinical Psychologist in this area.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have an interest in a career in psychology and keen to develop therapeutic skills to help undertake psychological assessments and interventions as an assistant psychologist. The post holder will have good organisation and time management skills and be able to support with project management and delivery.

The post holder will be involved in the development of groups, workshops and training for both staff and patients.

Tasks will be agreed and reviewed at appropriate intervals under the supervision of a registered psychologist, but the post holder will take these tasks forward independently on a day-to-day basis.
