The Local Government Association (LGA) is undergoing an ambitious transformation programme to ensure we remain a strong, effective and sustainable voice for local government. We value diversity and encourage applications from all sections of the community to this high-profile programme Public Health Improvement Programme The Public Health Peer Review and External Support is a major new local authority public health improvement programme led by the Local Government Association (LGA) over the next three years. Funded by the Department for Health and Social Care, the programme will see the LGA work with councils in England, starting in June 2026, to support local public health teams to deliver better health outcomes for their communities. It will include delivery of a substantial programme of public health peer reviews. About the role For posts marked

Assistant Programme Manager (Public Health) The role will support the Programme Lead (Public Health) and Public Health Programme Board to develop and implement pragmatic and streamlined programme processes to enable fulfilment of the contract, including reporting, project plans and risks logs. The Assistant Programme Manager will be a part of the Public Health Programme Team to contribute to the delivery of the contract by providing agreed pragmatic, streamlined, effective and efficient programme management support to the day-to-day provision of the business and information requirements of the Programme.

You'll be experienced in programme management or coordination, with excellent communication and IT skills (e.g., project scheduling software). You will bring your enthusiasm and knowledge of project management methodologies to the Programme and contribute to co-design and pragmatic programme management processes. Ability to support the Programme Lead (Public Health) in monitoring programme activity to ensure timely and contract compliant delivery. 3. Experience in compiling and submitting programme status reports to programme board level and other stakeholders as directed. 4. Ability to work effectively with relevant stakeholders for efficient programme implementation. 5. Experience in supporting scheduled progress reporting requirements of funding in accordance with agreed submission deadlines and dealing with ad hoc information requests. 6. Experience in identifying opportunities for improving and streamlining programme processes and ensuring improvements are implemented effectively.
