Full Job Description
Role Purpose: The role of Assistant Principal - SENCO & Safeguarding will support the strategic leadership of SEN and Safeguarding across the academy, ensuring that all students, particularly those with SEND and EHCPs, receive high-quality, personalised support. The Assistant Principal - SENCO and Safeguarding will lead the SEND and safeguarding teams and work closely with external agencies and the Local Authority to ensure effective provision and outcomes for vulnerable learners. The role of the Assistant Principal - SENCO & Safeguarding is to work with the Vice Principal to ensure the climate for learning and the academy environment is one of high standards, incredible behaviour, mutual respect and optimism. As a figure head of the academy the Assistant Principal - SENCO and Safeguarding, is relentless in their pursuit of 'excellence in all we do.' This key role is within the Senior Leadership Team under the leadership of the Vice Principal. This role will be in addition to existing responsibilities for teaching, learning and leadership. In conjunction with the expectations of The Teachers' Standards, the post holder will be expected to undertake the following: Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Strategic management of safeguarding. Ensuring full compliance with United Learning, local and national policy and legislation.
- Work closely with the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) to ensure safeguarding procedures are robust and inclusive.
- Undertake Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) training every three years & to ensure that all staff are trained in safeguarding and that this training is refreshed at least once every two years.
- Manage the referral of safeguarding concerns to other agencies including social care, and the police and to ensure that accurate and timely records of all concerns and referrals are maintained.
- Maintain an open, honest and factual liaison with other agencies and professionals to ensure the good safeguarding of all pupils, including the attendance at all necessary meetings for pupils causing concern.
- Manage the provision of safeguarding data for external partners (e.g. United Learning, LA, DfE, HMI, OFSTED)
- Champion inclusive values and ensure they are embedded in all aspects of school life.
- Bring creative and innovative approaches to enhance engagement and learning opportunities for students facing complex barriers to education.
- Track the progress of students receiving additional support, monitoring behavioural, social, and emotional development.
- Maintain and manage student folders, ensuring accurate and thorough documentation of individual support plans and progress.
- Ensure all student incidents, behavioural concerns, and safeguarding matters are meticulously recorded on CPOMS for comprehensive and thorough reporting.
- Create and deliver detailed impact reports that track and evaluate student progress, including academic, behavioural, and emotional development, providing clear evidence of outcomes to inform ongoing support.
- Regularly review and evaluate the effectiveness of inclusion strategies, using data and feedback to inform adjustments where necessary.
- To work closely with the Vice Principal and other senior leaders and colleagues in the strategic development of the school's SEND policy, practice and provision.
- To oversee the day-to-day operation of that policy with the aim of raising SEND pupil achievement and attainment in line with the SEND Code of Practice.
- To lead, in liaison with SLT, the provision for SEND within Seahaven Academy.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of inclusive practices, reporting regularly to SLT, Trust Leaders and governors.
- Work with staff to develop effective ways of bridging barriers to learning.
- To undertake duties specified in the absence of the Principal
- To undertake the leadership of key tasks as may be required by the Principal
- To serve as a member of the Senior Leadership Group and assist with the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the school strategic plan and policies
- To assist with the setting, monitoring, evaluation and professional standards in the work of both teaching and non-teaching staff
- To analyse and evaluate student attendance data accurately and concisely, identify intervention needs, and to design and implement action plans which are regularly evaluated
- To undertake responsibilities of current substantive role
- To support the delivery of whole school assemblies
- To contribute to the maintenance of an effective learning environment by supporting colleagues in implementing the school's policies on behaviour management and rewards
- To promote the health, safety and welfare of all students
- To promote effective links with parents, governors, the local community, local schools and local industry
- To attend and contribute to the Full Governing Body meetings and agreed sub-committees
- To set high standards by personal example As a Classroom Teacher
- To set and maintain the highest of expectations for all students
- To prepare and lead challenging lessons which follow department schemes of work
- To provide a clear structure for lessons incorporating pace, motivation and challenge
- To identify and meet the learning needs of individual students
- To effectively plan for and deploy other adults in the classroom
- To record and use data on students' prior and ongoing performance/learning characteristics so as to inform effective target setting and lesson planning, and to ensure excellent outcomes for all students
- To effectively assess, monitor and report on students' progress according to department and school policy
- To effectively set and monitor homework and extension learning opportunities
- To contribute to all developmental and organisational priorities
- To contribute to the development and review of schemes of work
- To contribute to the review and updating of department policies and the
- To share and support whole school responsibilities for the personal and social development of students
- To create a safe working environment and to promote healthy living amongst the students
- To engage with parents/carers in matters pertaining to the progress and well- being of students
