Assistant Practitioners / Associate Practitioners

The Assistant Practitioner / Nursing Associate will work within the Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) and Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) settings, providing autonomous, high-quality patient care within a defined scope of practice. The post holder will be required to work independently to assess, diagnose, treat, and discharge patients presenting with conditions that fall within their identified competencies. In addition to delivering clinical care, they will play a key role in supporting the development of others by providing education and supervision to Health Care Assistants, as well as medical and nursing students. You will demonstrate a strong understanding of national, Trust, and departmental standards, promoting evidence-based practice in line with frameworks such as NICE guidelines and National Service Frameworks. The role also includes contributing to the ongoing development of the practitioner service and supporting the expansion of extended scope practice across services. This is an exciting time to join the team, with the Band 4 role currently being redesigned across UTC and MIU services, including sites at Cumberland Centre, Dartmoor UTC, Tavistock, and Kingsbridge.

• Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification., You'll work alongside the Nurse Practitioners in providing patient focused care., Works as a competent Band 4 Assistant Practitioners/Associate Practitioners, utilising specialist knowledge and decision-making skills to demonstrate clinical skills, to promote clinical excellence and ensure an optimum standard of nursing care is delivered from admission to discharge in a timely manner.
• To carry out procedures such as wound management, assisting with the manipulation of minor bone dislocations and application of Plaster of Paris as part of treatment that includes management of children and vulnerable adults.
• To promote, maintain and monitor the best possible standards of care within the resources available, commensurate with Trust and Department policies and if registered within the framework of their governing bodys Professional Code of Conduct and the Band 4 Assistant Practitioners/Associate Practitioners competency framework.
• Identifies and manages child protection issues and raises awareness with medical and nursing staff.
• Identifies and manages issues related to mental health and vulnerable adults, raising awareness with medical, AHP and nursing staff.
• Awareness of de-escalation techniques, safety measures and raises alerts to staff when dealing with conflict or challenging conversations with patients and or relatives.
• Liaises with appropriate agencies and members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure care in managed for at risk patients on leaving the emergency department and/or hospital.
• To undertake safe manual handling techniques in all aspects of patient care.
• To work closely with members of the multi-disciplinary team both within the department and beyond to ensure care is delivered to the patient both effectively and efficiently.
• To liaise with the NPs to refer patients to other professionals such as clinical specialities, physiotherapy and occupational therapy.

• Demonstrable experience within a similar role
• Current proven knowledge of nursing and emergency care issues, NHS reforms and NSF's
• Computer literate with basic IT skills eg use of email, word, electronic records, Demonstrable experience/competency in form of professional portfolio.
• Proven evidence of radiology training., Proven evidence of continued recent academic and clinical development
• To demonstrate experience in a caring environment in or outside of the workplace and be able to discuss care given.
• NVQ Level 4/ Diploma in relevant subject or equivalent level of qualification, Proven evidence of continued recent academic and clinical development

• Demonstrate experience in a caring environment in or outside of the workplace and be able to discuss care given., Assistant Practitioner Foundation Degree.
• To be able to demonstrate a basic level of literacy and numeracy skills
• ILS/PILS, Communication skills, written and verbal, with proven ability to demonstrate fluency, clarity and effectiveness at all levels. Enjoys interacting with people
• Demonstrates resilience in busy and sometimes challenging environments, proven ability to prioritise own workload.
