Assistant Manager- Plants Galore

Our Garden Centre based in Newton Abbot is looking for an experienced Assistant Manager to strengthen its managerial team. This role is responsible for the smooth running of the centre alongside the department supervisors and head office. Once fully trained, the role will require applicants to assist with management of the operation of the entire retail store alongside the store manager. Responsibilities will include payment area management, merchandising and display of horticultural and Christmas ranges of products and merchandising and display of beautiful garden plant displays. Applicants will become responsible for all operational issues at store level. Applicants will need to be confident communicating with and leading a team of staff on the shop floor and be hands on with all workload tasks. Applicants ideally need to relish the opportunity to create beautiful seasonal store layouts and create colourful eye-catching displays for customers to enjoy. A flair for retail display and merchandising is required. Applicants will need a positive customer service attitude and friendly firm and professional personality to deal with customer queries and payment area issues. The role will include the following responsibilities:

• Managing 2-4 till operatives
• Resolving customer queries
• Processing returns
• Following and enforcing policies and procedures
• Customer service
• Opening and Closing procedures
• Head office reporting and administration
• Managing and leading the retail team
• Stock Management alongside department supervisors
• Run the store to the high standards that we set our stores at
This role is hands-on as a shop floor manager and physically demanding requiring applicants to be on their feet all day and handle heavy repetitive lifting. A good level of physical fitness and a passion for active work are essential. Regular weekend and bank holiday working is also essential (as with all high street retail stores) so please do not apply for this role if you cannot work weekends or feel that the physical nature of the role is not suitable. We can fast track progression and pay rates following the initial three month period so applicants can quickly reach agreed target levels as they quickly learn new skills and become more competent and experienced to take on more responsibility at store level and advance to becoming a key member of the team.
