Assistant Grazing Officer

The Assistant Grazing Officer is a vital member of a highly effective, practical team of staff that deliver a significant, multi-site conservation grazing operation across the two counties.What you'll be doing: Working closely with the Head Stock Person and other team members, you will support with maintenance and capital projects on farm holdings and assist with tasks associated with livestock husbandry, grassland management and basic farm building maintenance. Reporting to and under the guidance of the Head Stock Person, you will not only be crucial to the successful delivery of the Trust's Grazing Enterprise, but also the delivery of effective and appropriate conservation grazing across the Trust's estate and on sites within the Trust's contract grazing service. You will work closely with and support those who have day to day responsibility for the sites. You will be responsible for carrying out all aspects of livestock husbandry along with practical estate works and will also support the Trust's ability to fulfil its legal and contractual obligations associated with conservation grazing as well as meeting public safety obligations.

You will be a practical, hardworking and reliable individual, who can effectively work both independently and as part of a team. You will be proactive and resourceful, using your initiative to solve problems and get tasks completed to a high standard. You will have strong communication skills and a positive, professional attitude, particularly when dealing with challenges or changing priorities. You will be committed to livestock welfare, health and safety, and supporting the Trust's conservation objectives. Knowledge of livestock husbandry is essential. The post is physically demanding and will necessitate someone with good practical abilities. It also requires flexible working and on-call duties as part of a rota system, often during unsociable hours.
