Full Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Finance Analyst to join our finance team, initially for six months. You'll gain a real hands-on understanding of handling budgets, producing estimates, and working with spreadsheets. You will play a key role in supporting the Business Partners and Finance Analysts within the team. We need an ambitious person with a "can-do" attitude to work with colleagues as one team. What you will do

  • Assist the Accountancy team in budget monitoring, production of estimates, support service recharges, and final accounts.
  • Support financial processes through provision of information, entries to the financial system as directed by colleagues, and undertaking basic checks and reconciliations.

A good standard of education to GCSE level, along with an aptitude for numeracy and a genuine interest in managing finances.
  • Ideally you will be a member of or working towards qualification with the Association of Accounting Technicians.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software, especially Excel spreadsheets.
  • Ability to attend the Council office a minimum of three days per week as part of our hybrid working arrangements.

Covering an area of over 245 square miles in northern Hampshire and within a short distance to London Waterloo and the south coast, Basingstoke and Deane offers a real blend of rural and urban living. With a population of 185,200 people, Basingstoke is a fast paced, vibrant, and modern town with many successful businesses, surrounded by pretty villages and set in the stunning Hampshire countryside.
  • We are extremely lucky to be in a position that few other councils are in, as we continue to deliver our key front-line services and are going a step further by investing a significant amount of money each year to improve these services for our residents. Our 2024 resident satisfaction survey rate was an impressive 89% - a figure that has remained consistently high in recent years and well above the national 75% average. Closing statement
