Full Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Assistant Educational Psychologist to join the EPS in Neath Port Talbot Council. In this role, you will play a crucial part in reinforcing a needs-led approach to supporting learners, working within the framework of the Additional Learning Needs and Education Tribunal (Wales) Act 2018 (ALNET Act). You will contribute to the Directorate's mission to collaborate and empower children, young people (CYP), parents, carers, schools and their communities by helping them understand and build on individual learning profiles, celebrating strengths and supporting differences within an inclusive, neurodiverse society. As an Assistant Educational Psychologist, you will work alongside Educational Psychologists within inclusive communities and environments, to help make sense of differences and need, and ensure appropriate individual support. You will be involved in creating accessible resources for parents, carers, CYP, and schools, ensuring they have the tools to confidently support diverse needs. You will also take an active role in delivering training and workshops to build capacity in educators and families. You will utilise your skills, including knowledge of recent research and use of IT, to bring creativity and innovation to the role and ensure equity. A key aspect of the role involves collecting and analyzing data to assess the effectiveness of EP collaborations and consultations, ensuring that the support provided has a measurable positive impact on the educational outcomes of CYP. You will also advocate for the needs of individuals and their communities. Working closely with other professionals, you will help schools and communities implement person-centred approaches, ensuring that the child or young person's voice in captured so that educational provision is driven by the needs of the individual.
- strong organizational and communication skills, as well as experience working with CYP in educational or or community settings,
- familiarity with inclusive education practices and the ALNET Act and an ability to demonstrate empathy and sensitivity in your interactions with CYP and their families,
- the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from across health and education sectors,
- a BPS-accredited degree in psychology (or equivalent) and have a strong commitment to pursuing a career as an educational psychologist, including plans to apply for the doctoral training programme. We would welcome those with experience in roles that involve working directly with children, young people and their families e.g. teachers, teaching assistant, youth workers.
