Help shape HM Treasury's understanding of the global economy. From analysing international labour markets to assessing the economic impact of AI, you'll provide insights that inform decisions on growth, fiscal policy and living standards. Working at the heart of government, you'll help answer some of the most important economic questions facing the UK today.
About the Team
The International Group brings together International Economics, International Finance and the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation.
This role sits in the 13-person Global Economics team, which provides analysis and policy advice on the global economy and what it means for the UK. You will join the Global Prospects and Advanced Economies branch, leading analysis of the global outlook and major advanced economies, including the US, Europe and Japan.
We are a friendly and supportive team that values fresh thinking, professional development and flexible working. Part-time and job-share arrangements are welcomed and can be discussed with the vacancy holder.
About the Job
This role sits at the heart of HM Treasury's work on the global economy. You'll help shape our understanding of global economic trends, from labour markets and productivity to the impact of AI, and provide analysis that informs decisions on growth, fiscal policy and living standards.
Working at the intersection of global economics and domestic policy, you'll collaborate with colleagues across HM Treasury, Whitehall and the UK's overseas network to deliver high-quality analysis and advice on issues of significant ministerial interest.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading analysis of international labour markets and applying lessons from other countries to support UK policy development.
- Leading work on AI and its impact on the global economy, helping shape HMT's approach to this rapidly evolving area.
- Delivering international comparisons and insights that inform HMT's growth strategy, fiscal events and wider policy development.
- Producing high-quality analysis on global economic developments and emerging risks.
- Building strong relationships across government and with international partners to gather intelligence and deliver joint analysis.
- Using innovative analytical and data science techniques to strengthen HMT's understanding of the global economy

You'll be able to spot emerging risks and opportunities, think strategically about their implications, and deliver high-quality analysis to tight and changing deadlines. An undergraduate or master's degree in economics is required (with at least 50% economics content for joint degrees). Experience of economic modelling would be beneficial, but is not essential.
