Full Job Description

The post holder will be accountable for the planning, delivery and monitoring of infection prevention and control and decontamination services within the Trust in accordance with the Code of Practice for theprevention and control of infections and related guidance (Healthcare Act 2008 hygiene code update 2015), Care Quality Commission, and other relevant regulatory standards. The post holder will ensure strategies are developed and implemented to prevent healthcare associated infections (HCAIs) across the Trust on behalf of the Director for Infection Prevention and Control (DIPC).This will include leading on the development and implementation of an effective, Trust-wide, Infection Prevention and Control service, including decontamination. To be a highly visible, experienced leader, who provides assurance to the Board that systems and processes are in place to prevent and manage IP&C, underpinned by relevant policies and procedures and that these are understood and adhered to across the organisation to ensure safe and effective healthcare.,

  • To support the Director of Infection Prevention and Control (DIPC) and to advise the Trust in collaboration with the Infection Prevention and Control teams across the wider health economy on the delivery of the Trust, regional and national infection prevention and control programmesincluding decontamination.
  • Provide expertise in the management and control of infection in a range of health settings, advising Estates and Facilities teams, operational teams as well as pharmaceutical staff. Provide the Trust with Decontamination expertise and advise in all aspects relating to the prevention and control of infection.
  • Provide visible clinical leadership and specialised advice to professional staff to empower continual improvement in IPC. Deal with highly sensitive matters regarding risks to patients, supporting staff with these.
  • Provide guidance and expertise in all aspects of IPC, particularly highly complex cases requiring sensitive judgements, leading investigations relating to IPC including patient safety incident response framework investigations.
  • Ensure the Trust develops and implements systems for performance monitoring and performance improvement programmes for the reduction of key infections, including MRSA, Clostridioides difficile infections and Gram negative bacteraemias.
  • Influence and inform system IP&C strategies and programmes of work; working with ICS and ICP partners to ensure KCHFT contributes to population and place level health improvement.
