Full Job Description

The Assistant Contracts and Risk Manager plays a key role in supporting the Contracts and Risk Manager, leading elements of framework management and providing commercial and contract management support across project teams. You will advise on contract management matters including scope development, contract data, insurance requirements, and the NEC suite of Contracts, while supporting the development of future frameworks and delivering training and guidance. Key responsibilities include: Supporting the development, procurement and mobilisation of commercial frameworks. Assisting with the preparation and review of contract documentation, guidance and commercial tools. Providing commercial expertise and NEC contract support to project teams and live frameworks. Developing and delivering training, templates and best practice guidance. Supporting commercial capability initiatives, knowledge sharing and stakeholder engagement. Maintaining commercial resources and communications through SharePoint and Viva Engage. Collecting, analysing and presenting data to support continuous improvement. Supporting governance activities, including meeting coordination, approvals and action tracking. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective framework and contract management. The team This job sits within the Commercial Centre of Excellence team, part of Commercial and Framework Management (CaFM) which is in the Portfolio Management, Assurance and Commercial (PMAC) Directorate, in Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM). This team builds capability, sets standards, and provides expert support to ensure consistent, compliant, and high-performing commercial practices across the business.

Full or student membership of a recognised professional body, e.g. ICE, IMechE, CIWEM, MAPM, CIPS or RICS. GCF: CMCP Foundation Accreditation or equivalent contract management training. Certificated training in NEC4 contracts. Essential experience in:

  • Supporting framework or contract management, ideally within infrastructure, construction, FCRM or environmental programmes, able to follow established processes and procedures.
  • Identifying and monitoring risks, raising concerns appropriately, providing clear factual information.
  • Collecting and organising feedback, contributing observations and helping implement improvements.
  • Good organisational and time management skills, able to plan tasks, manage competing priorities and deliver outputs to a high standard.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, able to build positive working relationships, collaborate with colleagues and partners, and share information clearly.
  • Good written communication skills, competent in MS Office, with experience drafting reports, newsletters, briefs and documentation.
