Full Job Description
To support the delivery of evidence- based assessments and interventions for CYP in an acute paediatric setting. These children have often been admitted to the Paediatric wards because of complex health conditions, and/or mental health difficulties. To support service evaluation and development. Under the close supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist, this post will support the psychological assessment, risk assessment, care planning and delivery of interventions to manage issues related to physical health, mental health and wellbeing whilst children are inpatients. To work according to a plan agreed with a qualified Clinical Psychologist and within the overall framework of the department's policies and procedures. To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits and collection of statistics work where appropriate. To ensure that safeguarding policies and procedures are followed, and the child's welfare is always paramount.,
- Under the supervision of senior colleagues, undertake psychological assessments of patients, including neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with patient, family members and others involved in the patient's care
- Deliver outcome focused, evidence-based interventions with children and young people admitted to the Paediatric setting. Interventions will be devised in collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues and other agencies e.g. CAMHS to a increase access to mental health and wellbeing support whilst in hospital.
- Interventions will be person-centred and varied such as relaxation, mindfulness, guided self-help, daily scheduling of activities, psychoeducation, behavioural activation etc. Interventions are delivered on a one-to-one basis in person.
- To contribute to on-going risk assessment and care planning whilst children remain inpatients.
- To represent the department effectively in multi-agency settings and work collaboratively with colleagues.
- To attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings.
- To use statistical and data analysis to produce reports that demonstrate the outcomes of the interventions used, and audit activity undertaken by postholder or senior colleagues.
