Location: RG7 4PR, located between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking

Job Type: Full-Time

Salary: £29,490 - £35,000 per annum + Negotiable

Package: Starting from £29,490 (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)

Working Pattern: AWE operates a 9-day working fortnight, with every other Friday as a non-working day. Employees are required to work fully onsite. Flexible working arrangements, including part-time and varied hours, are supported upon request.

We are currently recruiting for an Asbestos Management Practitioner for the Radiochemistry Group. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an organized and detail-focused individual to support safe and compliant asbestos management across AWE.

Responsibilities

• Complete all required training, qualifications, and site assessments to demonstrate technical competence.


• Carry out asbestos surveys by inspecting buildings, structures, and equipment, taking samples, and assessing the condition, type, location, and risk of asbestos-containing materials.


• Maintain accurate asbestos records by updating inspection/survey data, condition assessments, and the Asbestos Data Management System.


• Support compliance with CAR Reg 4 by applying management controls, informing facility management of damaged materials, updating risk scores, and recording asbestos removal or remedial works.


• Maintain a register detailing the location, type, amount, and condition of all asbestos-containing or presumed asbestos-containing materials (ACMs).


• Contribute to the overarching Asbestos Management Plan (AMP) linked to the database.


• Schedule and document routine inspections of ACM conditions, typically every 12 months.


• Track and verify that personnel managing or maintaining asbestos have completed appropriate training.


• Work in accordance with relevant health and safety legislation, AWE standards, and regulatory requirements, including the Control of Asbestos Regulations.


• Opportunity to develop towards becoming a fully trained asbestos analyst.

Candidate Profile

While not a strict checklist, we prefer candidates who have experience in some of the following:

• Knowledge of current asbestos legislation, regulations, and standards.


• BOHS P402 and/or P405 certification, RSPH Level 3, or equivalent relevant experience or qualification.


• Experience with surveys, inspections, or compliance systems is advantageous but not essential.


• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage information accurately.


• Good written and verbal communication skills for clear stakeholder engagement.


• Experience working within a highly regulated or secure environment.


• Supporting or maintaining an Asbestos Management Plan or similar compliance framework.
