Full Job Description
Dudley Council is seeking an experienced Arboriculture Manager to lead the Council's Arboricultural Team, review our strategic approach to tree management and help shape the future of Dudley's trees and woodlands. Trees and woodlands are a vital part of Dudley's landscape, contributing to the character of our communities, supporting biodiversity and creating greener, healthier places for people to live and enjoy. Protecting and enhancing these natural assets requires a clear vision for the future, and this position is an opportunity to help shape it, develop a new Tree Strategy and influence how we protect, manage and enhance our treescape for generations to come. You will take responsibility for the strategic and operational management of the Council's tree stock, ensuring that our approach balances public safety, environmental sustainability and the needs of our communities. You will also lead the development of the borough's arboricultural policies and woodland management plans, establish inspection and maintenance programmes, and oversee the effective management of external contractors.
We are looking for a knowledgeable and forward-thinking arboriculture professional with the technical expertise, leadership skills and ambition to take our service forward. You will bring substantial experience of tree management, arboricultural legislation, tree safety inspections and woodland management, together with a strong understanding of procurement, contract management and service delivery. You will be confident managing and developing staff, advising a wide range of stakeholders and translating technical knowledge into practical solutions. You will hold a relevant arboricultural qualification at Level 4 or above, ideally Level 6, together with relevant professional membership. A Lantra Professional Tree Inspection certificate is required, or you must be willing to achieve this within six months of appointment. A driving licence and access to a vehicle for site visits are also essential.
At Dudley Council, we are committed to building a sustainable, community-focused borough and delivering services that make a positive difference to people's lives. This is an opportunity to bring your expertise and ideas to a role where your decisions will have a visible and lasting impact on our environment. If you're ready to lead, innovate and help shape the future of arboriculture in Dudley, we'd be delighted to hear from you. We also offer a range of employee benefits, including:
- Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme
- Generous annual leave entitlement
- Occupational sick pay
- Employee discounts with local retailers and partner organisations
- Leisure centre membership benefits and a cycle purchase scheme
- Health and wellbeing support, including access to counselling services
- Training, professional development and career progression opportunities
