Kent County Council is offering an exciting opportunity to join our Major Capital Programme Team (MCPT) as an Apprentice Trainee Assistant Project Management Engineer. This role combines on-the-job experience with a Level 6 Civil Engineering Degree Apprenticeship, giving you the chance to earn while you learn and work towards Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status-and ultimately Chartered membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). About the Role Working alongside experienced professionals and reporting to a Senior Programme Delivery Manager, you'll support the delivery of major highway infrastructure schemes (valued at £1m+), helping to shape the future of Kent's transport network. As your apprenticeship progresses, you will gain hands-on experience across the full project lifecycle:

  • Feasibility and planning
  • Design and consultation
  • Construction delivery
  • Post-construction review
  • What You'll Be Doing With guidance and support, you will:
  • Assist in delivering major highway projects from concept to completion
  • Support engineering design decisions using data analysis and modelling tools
  • Review designs from external consultants to ensure quality and compliance
  • Help identify, assess and manage project risks
  • Work with a range of stakeholders, providing excellent customer service
  • Ensure projects meet Health & Safety and regulatory requirements
  • Apply academic learning directly to real-world engineering challenges
  • Complete your apprenticeship modules, assessments and end-point assessment

    You must have one of the following:
  • A-Levels (BBC), including Mathematics (science preferred)
  • T-Level in Construction (Merit or above)
  • BTEC Level 3 in Engineering
  • Civil Engineering Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship
  • Plus:
  • 5 GCSEs (Grade 4/C or above), including Maths and English
  • We're looking for someone who is:
  • Passionate about civil engineering and infrastructure
  • Keen to learn and develop professionally
  • A strong communicator with good organisational skills
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Analytical, with attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Confident using IT (including Microsoft Office)
  • Interested in highways, project management, or local government
