Introduction

Join our team as a General Teaching Assistant, supporting teachers to deliver high-quality learning across the school. You'll work with individuals, small groups and classes, helping pupils to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. 



About the Employer

We are a thriving primary school in Taunton with over 420 pupils from aged 4 – 11.



What You'll Do

To work under the direction of the Headteacher, SENCO and class teachers to support the learning, well-being and development of pupils across the school. The postholder will work with individuals, small groups and whole classes and may be required to provide dedicated 1:1 support for pupils with additional or high needs, enabling all children to access learning and achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the planning, preparation and delivery of high-quality learning activities under the guidance of the class teacher
  • Work with individual pupils, small groups or whole classes to reinforce learning and promote progress
  • Provide personalised support for pupils with SEND or high needs, including those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), following agreed strategies and provision plans
  • Foster positive, trusting relationships that promote confidence, independence and emotional well-being
  • Encourage positive behaviour and support the school's behaviour policy consistently
  • Adapt resources and activities to meet the individual needs of pupils
  • Support pupils during lessons, playtimes, educational visits and other school activities as required
  • Assist with the assessment of pupils by observing learning, recording progress and providing feedback to teachers
  • Help prepare, organise and maintain learning resources and classroom environments
  • Support pupils with personal care, medical needs or mobility where required, in accordance with agreed care plans and appropriate training
  • Promote inclusion, ensuring all pupils are able to participate fully in school life
  • Contribute to the development of pupils' social, emotional and communication skills
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, therapists, external agencies and parents where appropriate
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally at all times
  • Attend staff meetings, training and professional development activities as required
  • Undertake reasonable administrative duties associated with the rol

Safeguarding Responsibilities:

  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of all children
  • Be familiar with and follow all school safeguarding, child protection, health and safety and behaviour policies
  • Report any safeguarding concerns immediately in line with school procedures
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and act as a positive role model


Training Outcome

There is potential for a permanent job role after the apprenticeship. There is also the potential to go on to further study for exceptional candidates.
