Apprentice Tax Accountant

What you'll do day to day

• Support the tax team with the preparation of tax returns and related documentation.
• Assist in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring information is up to date.
• Help prepare corporation tax computations and supporting schedules under supervision.
• Support the preparation of VAT returns and related reconciliations.
• Assist with tax payments and administrative processes, ensuring records are maintained accurately.
• Respond to day-to-day queries from retailer sites regarding VAT and tax-related matters, escalating where appropriate.
• Support both internal and external audit requests by gathering information and documentation.
• Assist with tax calculations and disclosures for statutory financial statements.
• Learn and apply relevant accounting, tax, and regulatory requirements.
• Contribute to ongoing process improvements and wider tax team projects.
• Develop technical knowledge through your apprenticeship programme and on-the-job training.

• A genuine interest in finance, accounting, and taxation.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills.
• Good communication skills with the ability to build positive working relationships.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, or a willingness to learn.
• A proactive attitude and eagerness to learn new skills.
• Ability to work independently while also contributing as part of a team.
• GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths and English at Grade 4/C or above.
• A Level 3 Diploma, BTEC qualification, or equivalent are desirable and may be required to meet the entry requirements for the Level 4 apprenticeship programme.
