What You'll Do
As an Apprentice Deaf Complex Needs Worker, you will work under supervision while developing the skills and knowledge needed for the role.
Your main duties will consist of:
Supporting Independence:
- Support and shadow experienced staff to promote service user independence and build life skills
- Learn how to encourage positive decision‑making and independence
Accessing the Community:
- Assist service users in accessing local services and amenities, including practising safe and confident travel on public transport
- Develop knowledge of the local area and available community resources
Support Within the Home:
- Support with basic tasks linked to tenancy management (e.g., understanding letters, signposting, learning routines) under guidance
- Learn how to promote a safe and well‑managed home environment
Money Management:
- Support service users to develop budgeting and money management skills, with training and oversight from experienced staff
Empowerment and Rights:
- Learn how to provide empowering support and help service users understand their rights and available support
Social & Relationship Support:
- Assist in promoting healthy family and friendship relationships
- Support service users to identify and access social, recreational, and cultural activities in safe environments
Health & Wellbeing:
- Help service users access health services and develop healthier routines, with support from senior staff
Safeguarding:
- Uphold safeguarding responsibilities at all times.Attend training, follow organisational procedures, and escalate concerns to senior staff as required
Additional Tasks (With Support):
- Carry out any reasonable duties required to meet service user needs, including unexpected tasks that arise during a shift, with guidance available at all times
- Use SDCA’s feedback system (Podnosh) to record and request feedback, with training and support provided
Training Outcome
The apprenticeship is offered on a Fixed Term Contract.
However you will develop the skills and knowledge required to carry out the duties of a skilled adult support worker.
