About the Employer

Spence Accounting Ltd is a trusted, forward-thinking accountancy practice proudly based in Saxilby and Grimsby, Lincolnshire. Since 2012, we have built a strong reputation for delivering tailored financial solutions that evolve alongside the needs of our clients. Specialising in supporting small to medium-sized businesses, we offer far more than traditional accountancy services. We provide a comprehensive, turn-key solution designed to simplify business management—from company formation and invoicing to payroll, compliance, and ongoing financial guidance. What truly sets us apart is our commitment to “hand-holding” support: a personalised, proactive approach that empowers business owners to focus on what they do best, whilst we manage the financial details expertly behind the scenes.

What You'll Do

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is motivated, enthusiastic, and ready to grow within a professional environment. This role is perfect for someone who takes pride in being organised, reliable, and detail focused.

You’ll have strong organisational skills and a natural attention to detail, helping you manage tasks accurately and keep everything running smoothly. A basic understanding of IT tools like Word, Excel, and Outlook is important, as you’ll use these daily to support the team.

Being punctual and dependable is key—good time-keeping shows professionalism and ensures the office operates efficiently. We also value a willingness to learn and a positive attitude, as this apprenticeship is all about developing your skills and confidence over time.

You should be comfortable using your own initiative when needed, while also being able to work effectively as part of a team. Strong written and verbal communication skills will help you interact with colleagues and clients clearly and professionally, whether responding to emails or speaking on the phone.

A professional phone manner is essential, as you’ll often be the first point of contact for clients. Alongside this, your positive attitude and friendly approach will help create a welcoming and supportive environment. Overall, we’re looking for someone who is organised, eager to learn, and ready to contribute to a busy and rewarding workplace.

A Working Week

With the appropriate support and supervision, you’ll carry out a variety of tasks to help the office run smoothly and deliver excellent client service:

  • Handle communications, including answering calls, responding to emails, and directing enquiries professionally
  • Carry out reception duties, welcoming visitors and creating a positive first impression
  • Manage incoming and outgoing post, including sorting, scanning, saving documents, and using the franking machine
  • Provide administrative support such as data entry, filing, scanning, and maintaining accurate records
  • Once trained on company systems you will assist with preparing and managing client letters, tax documents, dealing with anti-money laundering checks and validation of client ID
  • Support general office organisation, including scheduling meetings and managing team calendars
  • Liaise with external organisations such as HMRC and Companies House, handling queries and submitting documentation
  • Develop strong communication, organisational, and time management skills in a professional environment

Overall, each week will provide a balance of communication, organisation, and administrative duties, helping you gain valuable experience and practical skills in a professional business environment.
